[Updated 2026.2] The welcome bonus on this card now also includes “as high as” language. You won’t see exactly how much welcome bonus you’re eligible for until the final step of the application. Of course, if you don’t like the offer, you can choose not to accept it.

Highlights
- Simple, no annual fee, and easy to get: The cashback structure is simple and stays the same year-round, so it doesn’t require ongoing attention like Chase Freedom and Discover it. With no annual fee, it’s a good fit for students with modest spending, especially on groceries, gas, and department stores. It’s also relatively easy to get; in general, 6 months of credit history is often enough for this card.
- Discounted gift card redemptions: The cashback you earn can sometimes be redeemed for gift cards at a discount during promotions. For example, a $100 Macy's gift card may cost only $90 in cashback.
- 0% intro APR on purchases: Balances from purchases made within the first 12 months won’t incur interest as long as you pay at least the minimum payment each month. Please read carefully: “How to handle credit card bills during a 0% APR period”.
- Refer-a-friend bonus: You can earn $50-$100 per approved referral. See: Introduction to the AMEX referral program.
Statement Credit Benefits
In addition, the card now offers a $15 monthly Home Chef credit and a $7 monthly Disney, Hulu, and ESPN credit, worth $84 per year. The card design has also been updated. Note that both of these extra benefits must be activated on the benefit page before they will work properly. There has also been a nice improvement to the streaming credit: now you only need to enable monthly auto-renewal at disneyplus.com, hulu.com, or plus.espn.com to receive the $7 credit, and there is no longer a minimum renewal amount requirement. You must enroll in this offer on the benefit page to receive the credit. That adds up to $84 per year, which is basically free value on a no-annual-fee card.
Home Chef Credit

- Home Chef sign-up link ($35 off your first order)
- Commentary: You may be able to take advantage of first-order referral rewards every month (with additional accounts), and when combined with some cashback sites, getting one free meal per month should be very doable.

My Take:
Comparison with similar cards: If you only look at supermarket cashback and spend $6,000 per year on groceries, the no-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday credit card would earn a total of $180 cashback, while the annual-fee AMEX Blue Cash Preferred would earn $360 cashback - $95 annual fee = $265 total, so the annual-fee card comes out $85 ahead. If your annual supermarket spending is $3,160, the two cards break even at $94 each. If you spend less than $3,160 per year at supermarkets, then the no-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday credit card is the better choice.
However, you can absolutely apply for the annual-fee AMEX Blue Cash Preferred first, earn the higher welcome bonus, and then downgrade to this no-annual-fee version for long-term holding.
