About Hotel-Exclusive Bookings

US Credit Cards 101 has secured agency access to a range of preferred hotel programs, including Hyatt Privé, Marriott STARS/Luminous, Hilton For Luxury, IHG Destined, and more. When you book through these preferred programs, you can enjoy extra perks, while the price is typically the same as, or very close to, the Standard Rate/Best Available Rate when booking directly through the hotel’s official website. In other words, you pay about the same price and get these valuable benefits on top! This is especially suitable for travelers who care about a better hotel stay experience without wanting to spend extra~!

If you want to ask questions or discuss hotel deals, you can also join our dedicated hotel booking group. If the group QR code has expired, you can add our WeChat assistant instead (WeChat ID: uscards101) and ask to be added to the group.

Let us use a Shanghai example. Park Hyatt Shanghai can be booked through Hyatt Privé. The Hyatt Privé rate is only 40 CNY higher than the lowest Member Rate. But the added perks include breakfast for two, $100 hotel credit, a welcome gift, room upgrade confirmation within 24 hours, early check-in, and late checkout. The hotel itself is only 2,000 CNY per night, which is about $277, and after subtracting the breakfast and $100 hotel credit benefits, it is like staying at one of Shanghai’s top hotels at a regular hotel price.

Standard Benefits Explained

When booking through the Preferred Program, there are some standard perks, such as breakfast for two, hotel credit, room upgrades, early check-in, and late checkout. These can save you 10%-30%! Here is a detailed explanation.

Breakfast for Two

For many mid-to-high-end hotels, breakfast is not included by default. Only premium loyalty tiers—such as Hyatt Globalist, Hilton Gold/Platinum, Marriott Platinum and above, and IHG Diamond—can choose free breakfast for two. If you do not have one of these top-level statuses, you will usually need to pay an extra $30-$50 at booking time to add breakfast for two.

For example, at the Vignette Collection: RIHGA Royal Hotel Osaka. A cancellable reservation of the same type is $278, but booking through IHG Destined directly adds standard perks like breakfast for two (this is not a complete list). A comparable reservation that includes breakfast, requires no deposit, and is cancellable is $327. Booking through this channel saves you $50 directly (around 15%).

Also, some hotels cut costs for elite members by giving only a Continental Breakfast instead of full breakfast service, with no à la carte hot dishes included. Preferred Program bookings include full breakfast, meaning you can enjoy additional à la carte options on top of the continental buffet.

Hotel Credit

Each stay through the Preferred Program provides $50-$200 in hotel credit, depending on the property. The credit can be used at hotel restaurants, the spa, room service, and so on. You only need to tell the attendant your room number when spending so it is charged to your room. At checkout, the front desk will automatically settle everything and deduct the credit. Note that the $100 amount is converted into local currency, so you should check with the front desk for the exact local amount.

For example, on our last stay at The St. Regis Beijing, we had a 700 CNY lunch at Tianbao Ge Chinese restaurant, charged it to the room, and it was automatically deducted by the complimentary credit.

Room Upgrade

Hotel elite members usually get room upgrade benefits, such as upgrading from a standard room to a deluxe room, which is larger and often on a better floor. Whether an upgrade is available depends on room availability at check-in time. The upgrade benefit provided by the Preferred Program is similar, and also depends on availability the day you stay.

For a one-category upgrade, the next room tier is usually $50-$200 per night more expensive than a standard room. If you are lucky and move up two categories into a suite, that one stay could save you $1,000+.

In the Preferred Program, there are plenty of upgrade highlights:

For Hyatt Prive, room upgrades can be confirmed within 24 hours of booking. For example, Andaz West Hollywood: the official lowest rate is $400 a night with no perks. But the travel-agent rate is only $408 and includes breakfast for two, $100 hotel credit (usable for dining, spa, room service, etc.), early check-in, room upgrade (confirmed within 24 hours), connecting rooms, and other perks. After you book, we will contact the hotel and request an upgrade (at least one category). The result will be returned within 24 hours so you know whether it is approved. If the upgrade is not possible, you can switch to a different hotel or a different date, since it is free cancellation.

Also, Marriott STARS/Luminous also provides an option to upgrade by one category directly at booking time. For example, for W Nashville in the U.S., if you book through our channel you can get the Exclusive rate for just $390 and still include perks like breakfast for two. Even better, you can book a suite with the Luminous Complimentary offer for only $10 above the standard room rate, and that suite may even be upgraded again. If you stay two nights or more, you can also enjoy $100+$125 in credit, which is an excellent deal.

Early Check-In and Late Checkout

Luxury hotels are usually check-in at 2:00 PM, and checkout is generally at 12:00 PM. If you exceed those times, they may charge room rate proportionally.

For customers booking through the Preferred Program, you can request early check-in and late checkout. For instance, with Hyatt Prive, check-in can be requested as early as 9:00 AM, and checkout as late as 4:00 PM. Better still, you can request this right after booking, and the hotel will respond within 24 hours on whether it can be accommodated. In most cases, however, you still need to coordinate with the front desk at the hotel to confirm early check-in and late checkout. With Preferred Program support, check-in around noon and checkout around 2-3 PM are usually fine.

Additional Offers

Beyond the fixed benefits above in the Preferred Program, individual hotels and hotel groups also run extra exclusive promotions that can offer big discounts or perks. Some stay promotions can save 15%-33%, making them very worthwhile. These extra perks can be stacked with the standard perks like breakfast for two and upgrades, so when one hotel has multiple bonus offers plus standard benefits, booking there can save a lot of money while giving you even more value.

Hilton Luxury Additional Double Points

Hilton Luxury hotels offer this directly: you get double base points on stay (base points only). In other words, if you do not have any elite status, your normal Hilton stay earns 10x base points, while now you can earn 20x base points. To put it in context, Hilton points are worth around 0.4-0.5 cents each, so earning at 20x is roughly an 8%-10% cash-equivalent return. Compared with a normal stay that earns 4% more, this is also roughly equivalent to a direct 4% room rate discount, which is still pretty good.

Hotel stay promotions like three nights pay for two, and so on.
For example, the IHG ONE NIGHT ON US promotion offers three nights pay for two, or four nights pay for three, which is 1/4-1/3 cheaper than booking through regular channels. Similar offers also exist for Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and others.

Stay-Accumulation Offers

The Marriott STARS channel periodically launches promotions such as "Stay 2 Nights for up to 85%," including the Tokyo Edition Ginza hotel shown below. This gives an extra 15% discount for a two-night stay, so it is cheaper than direct booking. It also adds additional perks like breakfast for two, hotel credit, room upgrades, and more.

Combine With Credit Cards

Since the hotel charges your credit card directly at payment, you can activate elevated card rewards for travel and hotel spend.

You can also activate AMEX Offers and Chase Offers for extra rebates. For example, Hyatt currently has a new AMEX offer: spend $500 and get $100 back. When you book through our agency, Hyatt’s charge will successfully trigger the offer. If you’re not comfortable with that, you can also choose hotel payment. In addition, if you have multiple cards eligible for this offer (you can add more cards with our 101 Chrome extension), you can split payment at checkout at the front desk and charge $500 on each card, activating all of them.

Hotel Group Preferred Programs and Distribution

Earlier, we mostly discussed the Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, and IHG preferred programs. But preferred programs go far beyond these four, and all the hotels in the list below have their own programs. In total, there are more than 1,600 preferred program hotels, distributed globally, especially in popular attractions and major travel cities. So if you have travel plans and care about stay quality, booking through our agency channel is the easiest and best-value option.

From the map, we can also get a rough view of where these hotels are located.

  • Globally, here is the distribution of hotels participating in the Hyatt Privé program
  • Marriott, as expected as the largest hotel group today, has a lot of upper-upscale Marriott STARS/Luminous properties. In the US, there are over 160 participating hotels, 97 in Europe, and nearly 70-plus in Asia. Most of these hotels are also concentrated in popular travel cities, major cities, and resort destinations. Combined with the included two-person breakfast and the spend threshold, this works very well for enjoying a holiday!
  • IHG has fewer upper-upscale hotels in the US, while its distribution is wider across Asia and Europe.
  • Globally, you can find the worldwide distribution of these brands on the Hilton website
