The sign-up bonus has increased to 75,000 points: earn 30,000 after spending $1,000 within 90 days, and the remaining 45,000 after spending $500+ at Wyndham hotels within 180 days. If you already have hotel stays coming up, that’s pretty good. Wyndham points are worth about 0.9c/p, so this is a solid bonus for a no-annual-fee card.
In addition, there are some small changes to the card benefits, as follows:
- The old 5x on gas has been reduced to 3x
- The old 2x on grocery stores and restaurants has been increased to 3x

Drawbacks
- There are a huge number of Wyndham roadside motels in North America, but most are fairly mediocre, so the redemption value is not great
- This card does not offer much value for everyday spending. For travel spending, you should choose cards with better earn rates such as Citi Premier, Citi Prestige, Chase Sapphire Preferred, or Chase Sapphire Reserve
Wyndham hotel program overview
- Wyndham uses tiered redemptions (7,500/15,000/30,000 points), with an approximate redemption value of around 0.9c/p (10,000 points can average about $90 in hotel value)
- In addition to standard points redemptions, Wyndham also offers points+cash redemptions, priced at 3,000 points plus some cash
- Wyndham can be a good choice for hotels in places like Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific region (except Super 8 and Days Inn). Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Caesars Entertainment formed a partnership in June 2017, so redeeming at Caesars properties can also be worthwhile
I spent some time looking up hotels in Las Vegas.
You can see that the 15,000-point tier still has quite a few high-value hotels available. Picking one worth more than 1c/p is perfectly fine.
Verdict
This card is pretty average. If you’ve truly run out of cards to apply for and no longer need to worry about Chase 5/24, it’s worth considering.
- Getting Wyndham Gold from the card is pretty ordinary. You can instead use the Hilton status that comes with the AMEX Aspire card to match to Wyndham Diamond status; the entry is here
- Then match to Caesars Diamond — use Caesars to match MGM Gold at select MGM hotels or this one (both require an in-person visit) — then match Hyatt Explorist. After that, loop back again and keep timing renewals correctly for an endless cycle~!
In practice, this card is best used as a downgrade card for the annual-fee Wyndham card!
How to apply
Barclays Application Guide
- Check Barclays credit card application status
- Barclays credit card applications generally pull TransUnion (TU), and HPs on the same day can be combined
- If you already have another Barclays card and your new application is not approved, there will usually be no hard pull
- You can call the reconsideration line (866-408-4064) to speed up credit card approval or request another review of a denied application. They may verify your identity and address, ask why you want the card, and review your employment and repayment situation, so be prepared. You may need to move credit limit from an existing card to get approved.
