When you need to send documents to a bank—or when the bank asks you for documents—the most common methods are mail or Fax, but both can be a hassle. Banks also provide some online upload tools. In addition, a few old online banking links still offer hidden functions, so we’ve summarized them here.

1 Old Online Account Useful Links

AMEX changed its web interface in the second half of last year, which caused some functions from the old online account to disappear from the menus. So we’ve collected them in this post for easy reference and use.

1.1 Old Main Interface

On this old page, there are several functions that the new online account no longer uses:

1.2 Free FICO Credit Score Check

The credit score service in the new online account is called My Free Credit Socre, but it only supports viewing with an SSN. The old page, however, provides a free FICO credit report, including for users who opened a card with a passport or ITIN. The link is below:

1.3 No-HP Credit Limit Increase Page (Up to 3x)

AMEX removed the option to request a higher CL some time ago, so you can no longer directly request a 3x credit limit increase (you used to be able to request 3x after holding the card for three months). That option is gone now, but the saved link here still works.

Note that it is no longer a full 3x in every case. For example, the author had a card with a CL of 2,000 and requested an increase to 6,000, but was only approved for 5500. The link is below:

2 Uploading Documents

2.1 Encrypted Email

2.2️ Information Update and Document Upload Center

[2021.5 Update] A WeChat reader provided a new link. In his case, he applied for an AMEX credit card with an ITIN, and customer service asked him to upload proof of ITIN. After uploading it, the card was approved. The link is below:

After entering your credit card application information, you can upload documents.

There do not appear to be any special restrictions on uploads. Presumably, you can upload any materials AMEX requests, such as ITIN proof, SSN proof, 4506-C (to review tax records), etc.

This one has a very long name: Information Update and Document Upload Center. The URL is below:

This is used when you apply for an AMEX credit card and the system asks you to provide additional documents (such as 4506-T for tax transcript review, bank statements, etc.). However, the author has not tried it personally, so functionality is not guaranteed.

You need to enter the application RN, Zip code, and the applicant’s birth month and year. If no upload is required through this portal, you may see:

2.3 Document Center

Next is another, more commonly used tool: Document Center. It is best to first log in to your online account, then use the same browser to click the link below:

Then you will see the main interface:

In addition to uploading files, this Document tool can also be used to create an online account before linking a credit card (using incognito mode). However, it’s not especially useful, because the SSN restriction still applies when you eventually try to link the card.

If you do not have an SSN and are not the primary cardholder, the only way to create an AMEX online account is to call customer service for assistance (the process may be covered in a separate post in the future). That said, this method may let customer service directly link your credit card to the account for you (presumably saving them the account-creation step). During setup, you will need to set security questions. If you are interested, you can try it. YMMV.

Note: The first time you log in using this method, you must have a card linked to the account (or have customer service link one for you), otherwise you will not be able to log in later.

Back to the most common use of Document Center: uploading files. It supports uploads for many types of issues, including even Better Welcome offer. See below:

If the issue is dispute-related, select Billing Inquiry Support. When submitting a Dispute through the AMEX online account, you can provide supplemental documents, which can help the Dsipute proceed more smoothly. However, due to poor IT systems, uploads often fail. The author recently filed a Dispute and was unable to upload the “evidence”:

So this tool was used instead. After selecting the credit card and Category: Billing Inquiry Support, enter the Reference Number to upload documents.

Please note that you can upload up to 30 MB total for one submission. Individual file size is 10 MB max.

2.4 American Express Document Upload (For FR Only)

Just like the ID verification tool above, you need to register an account first (be sure to use incognito mode). After logging in, you can attach whatever supporting documents you have, and even include your written explanation. If you are under FR, it is recommended to use this together with FAX, HT: Edward.

After uploading, you will receive an automatic email reply. Based on the email information, this service is outsourced to an Indian company (is AMEX serious? Even FR is outsourced). Pay attention to the time zone and Indian city shown in the image below.

This tool was for uploading documents for Financial Review. It is unclear whether it was discontinued because not enough people used it or because it was not well publicized. When the author went through AMEX FR, this tool was used in addition to Fax. It can still be found through search, but it no longer opens:
