[2021.8 Update] The offers on Hilton and Delta co-branded cards seem to have disappeared from both the app and website (the Marriott co-branded card offer is still there), but eligible purchases still trigger the normal email notifications. It’s probably just a system issue and should be fixed again soon.

[No need to worry — reimbursement alerts are still triggering normally.]

HT: Muzhi.

[2021.3 Update] The reimbursement amounts in this round are relatively small. In addition to using the Weee order-splitting method and the Uber Eats switch payment method to generate small reimbursements, here are a few more ways to use the dining credit without actually needing a meal. There are mainly 5 methods:

  • Via the Fluz app, buying restaurant gift cards (such as Buger King, starting at $10) can also trigger the dining credit on these co-branded cards. HT: Mufeng. Screenshot below used a Hilton Aspire.

Buger King in the Fluz app supports purchases starting at $10, and there is currently 35% off for the first order, which means you can actually come out ahead by $3.5 on one purchase. This works especially well for cards with a $10 monthly credit, such as Hilton Surpass, Delta Gold, and the old SPG credit card. At the moment, we do not know whether buying other restaurant-related apps through Fluz will also trigger the credit. Please share your DP!

  • Dunkin Donuts [minimum reload supported: $5]
  • Starbucks [minimum reload supported: $10]. Note this is not buying a gift card, but reloading an existing gift card. It can stack with Dosh and Drop card-linked offers. After reloading, you can remove it and transfer it to someone else.
  • DoorDash [minimum reload supported: $25]. You can directly buy a gift card in the app. The logic is similar to how it previously triggered dining rewards through Cash App. After buying, you can redeem it to your own account and save it for later.
  • Chick-fil-A [minimum reload supported: $5]. There are not many DPs for this one, but you can give it a try. HT: Dog Lover

Since COVID-19, AMEX has continued rolling out various perks to give back to customers. This year it also went big on the AMEX Platinum cards (PayPal credits, various AMEX Offers), which made things very fun for deal seekers. See:

AMEX had previously mentioned in the news that, in addition to already waiving part of the annual fees on airline and hotel co-branded cards (personal and business), it would continue launching new benefits. After February 1, the benefits appeared in everyone’s AMEX Offers.

Offer Details

All AMEX hotel and airline co-branded cards are included, including personal and business co-branded cards from Hilton, Marriott, and Delta.

Details

  • Restriction: you must have been a cardholder before January 1, 2021. New accounts and upgrades are not eligible.
  • Period: February 2021 through December 2021, 11 months total
  • Credits: $5-$20 in dining each month (personal cards, U.S. only) or $10-15 in wireless bills each month (business cards, U.S. only, Wireless)
  • Spending bonus: earn extra points after spending a certain amount

Drawbacks

Since these are in the form of AMEX Offers, they come with all the usual AMEX Offer characteristics, and also:

  • Only the primary card gets the offer; authorized users do not
  • Offers on different card families do not conflict with each other
  • Each card family can only add the offer once, so extra cards in the same family cannot add it again

Personal Card Benefits

The main benefits on personal cards are dining credits ($5-$20 per month), limited to U.S. dining purchases (including delivery), plus Spending offers.

Spending offer

  • Hilton: for every $5,000 spent, earn an extra 10,000 Hilton points, up to 100,000 total (through mid-year)
  • Marriott: for every $7,500 spent, earn an extra 7,500 Marriott points, up to 75,000 total (through year-end)
  • Delta: none.

$15/m

$20/m

Special cases (multiple offers at the same time)

A few people who upgraded from a lower-tier card to a higher-tier card ended up getting two credits at the same time, YMMV. For example:

  • “No-annual-fee Hilton > Aspire” or “Aspire -> no-annual-fee” may allow you to have both the $5/m and $20/m credits at the same time. See below (HT: WeChat reader Liu Chang, DQ Zhang):
  • Surpass -> Aspire, $10+$20, HT: WeChat reader Ebuwo

Business Card Benefits

The main business card benefit is a Wireless credit of either $10 or $15 per month.

$10/m

$15/m

How to Use the Credits

Dining and Wireless are both common everyday expenses, so in normal cases you can just use them naturally.

Dining credit

  • Use it for actual dining needs (restaurants, delivery apps)
  • Buying or reloading gift cards in delivery apps (such as Starbucks) needs DP testing, YMMV
  • Special reimbursement methods (YMMV): Weee purchases and reloads, and some Asian supermarkets [they may code as both dining + grocery]

Several gift card purchases that can trigger the credit:

  • Fluz app for buying restaurant gift cards such as Buger King

Wireless credit

Many of the number porting guides, phone deal guides, and SIM card guides on this blog can also trigger it:

Other Questions

A quick thumbs-up to AMEX first. There are still a few questions, and everyone is welcome to share DPs.

  • Do newly opened cards or upgraded cards have these AMEX Offers?

[No. According to the AMEX Offer terms, you must have been a cardholder before January 1, 2021.]

  • If you downgrade the card after adding the offer, will it still remain?

[It should remain, and DPs do indicate that this is the case.]

  • How can you get around the limitation that the offer can only be added once? (There were previously some blog DPs related to card replacement.)
