WeChat reader Siwen shared a magical reimbursement DP: supermarket purchases also triggered it. The supermarket is a Chinese grocery store, a relatively niche PCC in Washington state. This DP includes multiple transactions: one restaurant and two supermarkets (one PCC and one Safeway). The restaurant and PCC supermarket triggered the reimbursement, while Safeway did not. Also, the purchases were made on May 30, which means as long as the posting date is May 30 or later, they should automatically reimburse normally.
Let’s take another look at this PCC supermarket charge category and rewards. It really is coded as a supermarket, and it triggered the Aspire card’s 12x points.
AMEX’s recent pandemic-era reimbursement glitches are well known. Last time, Google Fi/GV and other Google-related charges were randomly triggered as streaming reimbursements. It’s expected that some unusual supermarkets may trigger the dining reimbursement on hotel cards (these supermarkets are not easy to come across). Please note that using the wrong reimbursement has some chance of being clawed back in the future; YMMV.
