Here are the details of this card’s changes:

• New $150 hotel credit: You must use this card to spend at delta.com/stays, Delta’s own travel website
• New $200 Delta credit: This is a large-spending bonus that requires $10,000 in purchases on this card within one calendar year. It used to be a $100 bonus
• Annual fee will increase to $150 (from $99): If your card was applied for before February 1, 2024, your annual fee will be adjusted when the fee renews after May 1, 2024. Specifically, if your new annual-fee statement closes before May 1, you’ll still be charged $99; otherwise, it will be $150 immediately.
• 2x points on shipping and advertising: This should be useful for business users with these two spend categories, up to $50,000 in spending

Drawbacks

• This card earns only 1x Delta SkyMiles on everyday spending, which is too slow, and it also has a $95 annual fee. If you really want to collect Delta SkyMiles, the no-annual-fee AMEX EveryDay Card (1.2x-2.4x) or the fee-based EveryDay Preferred Card (1.5x-4.5x) would be better

Delta SkyMiles overview:

• Value: The miles are worth about 1.4 cents each, mainly because the award chart changes frequently, so redemptions are not as stable as airline miles from AA, UA, and others
• Redemption: At a minimum, 35,000 miles can be redeemed for a one-way China-US award, 5,500 for a one-way domestic US award, 7,500 for a one-way domestic China award, and 80,000 for a US-Australia business-class award. This is a short-haul powerhouse within the US, especially useful for people living in the US West and the Northeast.

My take

This card is very similar to the personal version, with only a $1,000 higher minimum spending requirement for the welcome bonus. If you’ve already applied for the personal version, you can still apply for the business version to get the welcome bonus. From a long-term holding perspective, the business card is slightly better because it comes with extra AMEX business-card benefits.

This card is a Delta co-branded credit card. When applying, you’ll need to enter your own Delta account number (if you don’t have one, one will be assigned automatically), so it’s still a good idea to register for a Delta member account first.

• For the same AMEX credit card, the public welcome bonus is generally available only once (once-per-lifetime restriction)
• You can call the reconsideration line (800-528-4800, 877-399-3083, 866-314-0237) to speed up credit card approval or request a review of a denied application.
• AMEX limits you to 4 credit cards and 10 charge cards total.
• You can apply for a total of two AMEX credit cards every 90 days, excluding charge cards.
• After you submit your application, a pop-up may appear telling you that you are not eligible for the welcome bonus. In that case, it is usually best not to continue with the application (detailed analysis)
