[Update on Feb 10, 2023] Right now, new Metro customers who port in a number can get an iPhone 11 64GB in store by paying only the plan fee and activation fee. The best play is to port two non-T-Mobile numbers to Metro and get two iPhone 11 64GB phones. If you go to a corporate store, the monthly plan is $60 for one phone or $90 for two phones together. The phones themselves are free with no tax. If you go to a corporate store, your final cost is $40 in activation fees + $90 in plan charges + $3 tax, for a total of $133 for two brand-new iPhone 11 phones.

The best play is to port two non-T-Mobile numbers to Metro and get two iPhone 11 64GB phones plus two Android phones, such as the Moto G stylus 5G or Samsung A13 5G. For the Android phones, you can simply open new lines without porting in. Metro charges $90 for two lines and $150 for four lines. Your final cost is about $250 + tax for two iPhone 11 64GB phones plus two Android phones. The key points for this purchase are similar to before: you only need to port in two physical numbers from non-T-Mobile networks. If not, you can consider activating a Visible eSIM; with a referral code it only costs $5, and after activation you can immediately get the port-out information. If you were blacklisted by Metro before, you may still be able to do this deal this time around (the author was). This deal only requires paying for one month. In terms of specs, the N10 is a 5G phone, so it is relatively better, but each person is limited to only two units. The best-value approach is to port in two lines (from a non-T-Mobile network) and get two N10 phones plus two other free phones from other brands, for a final cost of $100 for the four-line plan. If the store clerk insists on a $120 plan or requires you to buy insurance, a phone case, or other add-ons, you can decline. Phone availability depends on local store inventory. Some readers chose to buy four N10 phones, but under the terms only two are free; for the other two, the price difference is $230 each. In practice, you may only need to pay an extra $70 plus tax, bringing the total cost for all four phones to about $250. Other readers also reported that the two non-N10 models may require an additional price difference as well, so your mileage may vary. Because Metro checks ID, you can receive at most four free phones every 180 days per ID. If you already participated in the last promotion, you will need to use a different ID. In addition, if you were charged $120 instead of $100 for the previous promotion and paid by credit card, you can contact Metro customer service to request a refund of the difference and have the charge adjusted back to $100. You can also ask customer service whether any excess tax paid can be refunded. Based on current online DP, as long as the MetroPCS phone stays active on the network for more than 15 days, then after waiting 6 months, you should be able to unlock it using the built-in unlock app on the phone. If you want to unlock it faster, you can buy a paid service on eBay. To be safe, do not port out the MetroPCS number after activating it for one month; that way the phone should still count as being active on the network and should not fail to unlock after 6 months. About MetroPCS

There are many wireless carriers in the U.S., but only four actually own and operate their own networks: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Many MVNOs are derived from these four and operate by leasing their networks, such as Cricket under AT&T, Boost Mobile under Sprint, and MetroPCS using the T-Mobile network. Compared with their parent companies, these subsidiaries or MVNOs are usually cheaper, but in practice their data speeds may be limited. In most areas the difference should not be significant, except perhaps in rural areas. MetroPCS uses T-Mobile tower resources and operates on a GSM network. Its plans are cheaper than T-Mobile's, and all plans are prepaid, so no credit check is required.

How to Play This Deal

Be aware that porting away from Metro may affect unlocking. To be safe, it may be better not to port out for now and wait for more DP.

Another thing to note is that because MetroPCS uses the T-Mobile network, T-Mobile numbers and numbers from other carriers that also use the T-Mobile network generally cannot be ported in. Therefore China Telecom Americas does not work, and Mint probably does not either,but China Telecom Americas may be portable after all; if you are unsure, have the number ready and ask the store clerk to confirm. Based on online feedback, Google Voice also cannot be ported in. The author used a Ting SIM purchased earlier from Target for $1. To avoid unexpected Ting charges, it was linked to a Visa gift card with only $1 remaining balance. After activation, the author immediately contacted customer service to obtain the Account number and PIN. If you happen to have a Ting number on hand, it can be a good option for this deal. If you stocked up on US Mobile numbers before, those may also work for port-in. Cricket and Visible should probably work too. If you really do not have another number to port, you can consider buying one on eBay.
