Cash App has pushed a free-money offer to many existing users, with a no-minimum $5 or $10 discount. Existing users should quickly check the Cash App app to see whether they were targeted.
[Updated 2024.8] Cash App is facing a class action lawsuit due to security vulnerabilities. The case involves Cash App security incidents in 2022 and 2023, along with alleged negligence, misrepresentation, and breach of other obligations related to unauthorized and fraudulent withdrawals, transfers, complaints, and error-resolution procedures involving Cash App accounts and linked accounts. The case is currently being heard in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Block and Cash App Investing deny these allegations and claim they did nothing wrong, but they agreed to pay $15 million to settle. If you are a current or former Cash App user and your account information was accessed without authorization, or you experienced fraudulent transactions and losses, during the period from August 23, 2018 to August 20, 2024, you may be eligible to submit a claim and receive compensation of up to $2,500. Please note: all claims must be submitted by November 18, 2024.
If you were a Cash App user during this period but are not sure whether you were affected, it may still be worth filing a claim.

About
Cash App is a product under the well-known card-reader company Square. Cash App has been around for a while, and lately it has had a lot of small perks. I’ve kept several Cash App accounts myself, so here’s a quick introduction.
Signup
The bonus posts instantly after the transfer. Occasionally there are also hidden promos. The highest signup bonus has been $15, but for now I can’t find that code.
- Apply here (after signing up, send $5 to a friend for the first time and get $5)
- If you need to enter a code, use: ZVPTXVB
- There is basically no barrier to applying; you can almost sign up casually (you can use Google Voice), but to actually use it, you need an SSN
You need to download the mobile app, though you can also just download it directly and enter the code above. To register, you only need an email or phone number. If you want to use the Checking account and debit card, you will need to provide an SSN later. There is no Hard Pull.
Hey! I’ve been using Cash App to send money and spend using the Cash Card. Try it using my code and you’ll get $10. ZVPTXVBhttps://cash.app/app/ZVPTXVB
Features
Cash App is very well designed, and you can find its various features directly in the app interface. Broadly speaking, they include:
- A Sutton Bank Checking account that supports DD, ACH, etc. Cash out can also code as DD with some banks
- A standalone debit card with customizable card art (three main colors), including signatures, emojis, and more. It’s quite distinctive. You can change the card design at any time, and it can be added to Apple Pay and other mobile wallets
- Money transfer functionality (supports transfers via debit card / credit card / bank account; using a credit card carries a 3% fee). You can scan a code, and transfers are only supported between Cash App users.
- Built-in stock and securities investing features, suitable for beginners trying things out
- Cash Boost, which became especially strong during the pandemic; we’ll cover it separately below
- Free tax filing
- Round-ups
- A built-in shopping portal-style cashback feature
Cash Boost
A few things to keep in mind first:
- Spending is deducted from your Cash App balance, so you need to transfer money into Cash App first.
- You need to use the Cash App debit card for the purchase.
- You can only choose one category at a time, and you need to select it before using it.
Cash Boost has been very rewarding in recent months. These are all small deals, but they can add up over time (and this is on a debit card). Our writers have been using it for quite a while too. The worthwhile offers include:
USPS 20% 10% off, up to $7.5
- Can be used once every 3 hours
- You cannot buy money orders; otherwise, everything else works
USPS offers many gift cards. A particularly useful one is the Apple gift card, which can be used to buy Apple devices such as an iPhone. The gift cards you buy can be loaded into your Apple ID balance and used later for Apple purchases. The image below comes from a WeChat reader named Guang; buying an iPhone 12 at 20% off is just a matter of repeating the process enough times. [Another way to get an iPhone cheaply is to use the Amazon shop with points deal to stock up on discounted Apple gift cards.]
Grocery stores 10% off, up to $7.5
- Currently limited to once per week
- No restrictions on purchase category
Groceries are a necessity, so 10% off is pretty nice. If you do not need that much actual grocery shopping, money orders, Visa gift cards, Apple gift cards, and similar purchases also count. One thing to note: Walmart does not count as a grocery store in Cash App, but sometimes there is also a separate Walmart offer (10%, $7.5), so don’t miss it.
Cashback portal
A new shopping-portal-style cashback offer appeared for Walmart (5%, up to $50, once per hour). You need to click shop now to be redirected. There are no other instructions at all. Based on testing, any purchase can trigger it, including gift cards. For example, if you buy $1,000 in an hour, the charge posts as $950. HT: Mu Zhi
Other Deals
The other ones are more average. If you order delivery often, DoorDash at 10% off every hour (up to $5) is still a small perk.
Other Notes
- Unfortunately, it cannot be linked to the debit card for PayPal Key
- It also cannot be linked to some online virtual debit cards, such as Sable debit(猎豹) and Revolut debit
- Do not self-refer, do not self-refer, do not self-refer
- Do not link the same debit card to different people’s accounts (you can link it, but transfers will be declined)
- In theory, as long as you sign up, you get Checking. The bar really is low, but to actually see the account number, you still need an SSN
- The weekly limits for Sent / Add Cash are $2,500, and the weekly cash out limit is 25,000, which is enough for most people
- Before activating the physical debit card, there are hidden usage restrictions. It’s recommended to load a bit more the first time just in case; things improve after the card is activated
- Customer service has a very strong curry accent, and its problem-solving ability is worrying, so call a few more times if needed
