[Update 2] Based on our testing, for some Cash App offers, if you get a refund after using the offer, Cash App still refunds the full original amount. For example, with the Travel offer in this post (now expired), after booking a hotel and receiving the $10 discount, canceling the reservation resulted in a full refund from Cash App. We suspect some other offers may behave similarly, but YMMV. To avoid ruining it for everyone, we do not recommend doing this often.

[Update] Based on current DPs, buying airline gift cards can trigger this offer, such as the Delta gift card [minimum purchase $50, effectively 20% off, confirmed by DPs]. A few other airlines may also work:

  • Fund UA Travel bank, minimum $50 load, valid for 5 years [effectively 20% off, untested]
  • Southwest eGC, can purchase exactly $40 [effectively 25% off, untested]
  • AA eGC, minimum purchase $50 [effectively 20% off, untested]

We especially recommend the Delta gift card, since it may also be useful for triggering AMEX airline fee reimbursement.

[The following was the original 101 newsflash from October 23, 2020]

Cash App has a decent offer today: 25% off travel purchases, up to $10 off. You need to add the offer first, then make the purchase. It is limited to a one-time purchase, so you can simply make a $40 purchase to maximize it. HT: reader DM on WeChat

  • Cash App signup link (after registering, send $5 to a friend for the first time and get $15 instantly)
  • If you need to enter a code, use: BJLHSPD

If you do not have an immediate need, there may not be many good ways to use it. Here are a few relatively easy options, YMMV:

  • Buy Delta eGC, minimum purchase $50 [effectively 20% off, confirmed by DPs]
  • Fund UA Travel bank, minimum $50 load, valid for 5 years [effectively 20% off, untested]
  • Southwest eGC, can purchase exactly $40 [effectively 25% off, untested]
  • AA eGC, minimum purchase $50 [effectively 20% off, untested]
  • Reload Uber/Lyft from within the Uber/Lyft app, directly with $40. [Doc already has DPs: Uber cash, Lyft cash]
  • Buy a Marriott eGift card; you can buy exactly $40, making it effectively 25% off [untested]
  • Book a hotel and then cancel for a refund — free money? It might even work [untested]

Uber Cash can be used for Uber Eats. If you regularly use Uber/Lyft, this is still worth loading.

Cash App is very useful, so it is worth signing up while these deals are still around.
