The Most Complete Guide to Capital One Travel: Venture X Cards Get the Fourth Night Free on Premier Collection Hotel Stays

【2025.8 Update】Capital One Travel has introduced a new benefit for the personal and business versions of the Venture X card: when you book a Premier Collection hotel stay, you can get the fourth night free, as long as you book four consecutive nights.

The requirements are fairly straightforward:

• You must book at least four consecutive nights. Must book at least four consecutive nights to get the fourth night free
• Existing reservations do not qualify. Not valid on existing bookings, and the discount may be removed if you shorten your stay
• It cannot be combined with other discounts. Cannot be combined with other offers unless specified
• If you do not see the discount during booking, it means it is not available for those dates. If the offer doesn’t appear during booking, it’s not available for those dates
• You can see the discount when booking, and the final amount is shown at check-out. Complimentary night is reflected at booking, and taxes/fees for that night are removed at check-out
• Capital One may change or end this benefit at any time. Capital One can change or end the benefit at any time

You can see this discount both on the booking page and on the checkout page. In effect, that is roughly 25% off for hotels in this collection. It should also be stackable with the standard $300 Capital One Venture X travel credit.

About the Capital One Travel Portal

We have previously covered Chase, AMEX, and Citi Travel, all of which have some appealing features. Today, let’s take a closer look at what makes Capital One Venture X stand out. It is worth noting that after Capital One launched the highly cost-effective Venture X card, it also helped drive the development of its Travel Portal, which I personally think is well worth using. Through the Capital One Travel Portal, you can book flights, hotels, and rental cars, and many Capital One credit cards also offer bonus earnings and travel credits there.

You can use Capital One Travel only if you hold an eligible Capital One card. Common options include:

• Personal cards: Venture X, Venture Rewards, VentureOne Rewards, Savor Cash, SavorOne Cash Rewards, QuicksilverOne, Quicksilver Cash
• Business cards: Spark Miles, Spark Miles Select, Spark Cash 

Mile Redemptions and Travel Credits

A quick note on redeeming miles: Capital One miles can be used like cash in Capital One Travel, but only at a 1:1 ratio, meaning $1 requires 100 miles. That is generally not a great redemption. Cashing out directly or transferring miles to travel partners through Venture X may be a better option.

As for travel credits, only Venture X offers the $300 annual travel credit, which can be used for hotels, flights, and rental cars booked through the portal. It is based on your cardmember year and resets each anniversary; any unused amount from the prior year expires. There has now been a small change: it functions as a $300 off coupon, and any unused portion of the coupon will remain available for a future purchase.

The $300 annual travel credit was previously delivered via statement credit. It will no longer be delivered as a statement credit as it is now directly redeemable through Capital One Travel.

One issue after this change is that if you need to modify an itinerary, the old approach was simple: cancel and rebook. Now, after you cancel, you have to wait for the credit to become available again before you can reuse it, and it is unclear how long that takes. One reader reported waiting a full week without seeing it restored.

Flights

No matter where you book airfare, you can still earn miles with the airline, so you generally do not need to worry about booking through a third party such as Capital One Travel. For pricing, I still recommend comparing with Google Flights and other third-party platforms. One feature I especially want to highlight is Capital One Travel’s flight booking system. After you search for flights, you will see a chart like the one below that classifies fares based on historical and recent data. There are four color-coded categories, ranging from low fares with a “book now” recommendation to higher fares with a “wait” recommendation. You can use that guidance to decide whether to book immediately. According to Capital One, this prediction is 95% accurate.

The Capital One Travel portal does more than provide price recommendations; it also includes a price drop protection system. If you book when it recommends the green “book now” option and the price drops within 10 days, you can receive automatic compensation, up to $50. This reimbursement is automatic and will appear as a statement credit.

If you are not ready to purchase yet, you can buy an add-on to freeze the current price. You can also purchase the optional “Cancel For Any Reason” service. As long as you cancel outside the initial 24-hour window, you can receive most of your refund back.

For earning rates, only Venture X earns 5x on flights, so if you hold that card, booking airfare through Capital One Travel is often a good idea.

Hotels

Standard Bookings

There is one important thing to keep in mind with hotel bookings: Capital One Travel is a third-party booking platform, so with major hotel chains you may not receive elite night credits, points, or elite benefits. You need to weigh that tradeoff carefully. On pricing, you should still compare against other third-party sites and the hotel’s own website before deciding whether to book here, and always include taxes, fees, and credit card rewards in your calculations.

Hotel earning rates vary by card. If you earn 10x, that is roughly equivalent to a 14% return, which can be very worthwhile.

Premier Hotel Collection

Capital One has added a new Venture X benefit: when you book certain higher-end hotels, you can receive perks such as a $100 experience credit, free breakfast, room upgrades, and more, similar to FHR. We still do not know the full hotel list, but when this benefit works for your trip, the value can be excellent.

These benefits are quite solid and appear to have been designed to compete with FHR.

• A $100 on-property credit, likely usable for room service, spa treatments, dining, and similar charges;
• Breakfast for two, which is especially valuable since breakfast buffets at luxury hotels are often expensive;
• Room upgrades are not guaranteed, but it will depend on how generous the program is—FHR is often quite strong on upgrades;
• Complimentary Wi‑Fi, though most upscale hotels already offer that anyway;
• Early check-in, which many hotels will provide when rooms are available; and late check-out, though not guaranteed, whereas FHR guarantees 4 p.m. checkout.

Rental Cars

There is not a whole lot to say about rental cars, but 10x is still very compelling. The earning rates are as follows:

Summary

When it comes to flight pricing and booking tools, C1 Travel is still ahead of AMEX and Chase, especially on the highly price-sensitive question of airfare. More broadly, if you have the highly valuable premium Venture X card, using its own portal is often a very solid option.
