【Updated 2026.1】The deadline is January 19. If you have a very large amount of spending coming up, this card is still worth applying for. The welcome bonus has increased to an incredible 400,000 points, worth $4,000 in cash redemptions alone. However, the spending requirement is also exceptionally high: $30,000 in purchases within 3 months. Make sure to apply only if it fits your situation.

No matter what, this welcome bonus is still pretty amazing, so I added it to the rankings.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus: You get 10,000 points each year when you pay the annual fee, which is a nice perk
  • $300 travel credit: Up to $300 in travel credit each year, but only for bookings made through Capital One Travel (it is still unclear whether this is based on the calendar year or cardmember year; if it is calendar-year based, you may be able to use it up to three times in the first year)
  • Capital One Lounge: The cardholder gets complimentary access and can bring up to two guests each visit. These are Capital One’s own lounges. Right now there is only one at Dallas/DFW in terminal D, with Denver/DEN and Washington/IAD expected to open next year.
  • Plaza Premium Lounge: Unlimited access to participating lounges, including some Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse locations, with up to 2 complimentary guests. Click here to view the list.
  • Priority Pass Select membership: The cardholder receives membership and can bring up to 2 guests for free. It can also be used for non-lounge Priority Pass locations such as restaurants. You can enroll here: Enrollment link
  • Global Entry/TSA Pre: Reimbursement for the application fee up to $100, which is standard on most premium cards. Only U.S. citizens or green card holders can apply.
  • No foreign transaction fee (Foreign Transaction Fee)

Capital One Points Overview

  • Point Value: Average value is 1.2c/p, so 100 points = $1.2 (Point Values & Analysis)
  • Redeem Directly: Redeem at 1c/p toward travel purchases or various gift cards; cash out directly at 0.5c/p
  • Transfer Partners: Transfer 1:1 to Air Canada miles (good for US-China flights and infant tickets), British Airways (short nonstop flights, Avianca miles (good for US-China business class, ANA and Asiana US-China first class, and no YQ on award tickets), Qantas Airways miles (good for domestic US nonstop flights and flights from the US East Coast to Western Europe), TAP Portugal Miles&Go, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Flying Blue, Club Premier, Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, Finnair Plus, Wyndham, and Choice. Transfer times range from instant to several days.
  • Points Feature: You can pool all of your Capital One points into one account and use them together.
  • My Take: Capital One has fewer transfer partners, so compared with some other programs it is a bit less flexible and valuable. The more useful partners are AC and Avianca. Redeeming points for travel at 1c/p is also a solid option, and you can still earn miles, which makes it much easier than transferring points for award tickets.

My Take

This card’s benefits are basically the same as the personal version, except that the Priority Pass benefit on the business card still includes the non-lounge parts. If you were going to keep only one, the business card is probably the better choice. Also, a new business card typically will not appear on your personal credit report (though there may still be a hard pull), and it does not affect Chase’s 5/24 rule. That said, the minimum spending requirement is a bit intimidating.

This card gives you 10,000 points every year plus a $300 credit, while the annual fee is only $395. If you can fully use the credit, it is basically a negative-cost card to hold (Capital One points are worth at least 1 cent per point, and potentially more when transferred to miles). On top of that, it earns 2x points and includes airport lounge access, so you can probably feel comfortable closing the coupon-book AMEX Platinum. The $300 credit has to be used through the C1 travel portal, but realistically, if you have even one trip planned, it is easy enough to use on airfare or hotels. If you want to combine it with a Free Night, just book separately and ask the hotel not to make you switch rooms. Capital One points are not as flexible as Citi, Chase, or AMEX points, but transfer partners have been gradually improving. Transfers to AC, BA, and CX can all be useful. At worst, you can redeem at 1 cent per point for travel purchases or gift cards, which effectively makes this a 2% cash back card on all spending, plus 10% back through the C1 portal, which is still quite good.

Capital One Credit Card Application Guide

  • Application status can only be checked by phone: (800) 903-9177
  • Capital One applications usually pull reports from all three credit bureaus. You may be able to avoid a hard pull by freezing some of your credit reports.
  • You can apply for only one Capital One credit card every six months, including both personal and business cards. If you force another application, it will likely be instantly denied, but it will not result in a hard pull.
  • One person can hold at most two Capital One personal credit cards at the same time, counting only Capital One-issued cards.
  • If you do not qualify for the card you applied for, you may be automatically approved for a different card instead, usually a lower-tier version. You can choose to accept or decline it, and there will be no additional hard pull.
  • New applicants may be asked to upload ID during the application process.
