Bottom line first: the $500,000 method still appears to work, but Capital One is still quite sensitive with reviews, so even after approval you should stay careful. Details below.
Application tips
- Capital One allows one pre-approval check every 24 hours, but there is no need to try every day. Once every 2-3 months is enough. Pre-approval does not involve a hard pull and will not affect your credit score.
- If you have opened a Capital One checking account and savings account, that can help with applying for their cards. Especially if you have deposited a large amount of money into the savings account, there is a good chance you can pass pre-approval.
- If you already have another Capital One card, updating your income in the app to $500,000 may also improve your odds of passing pre-approval.
- If you do not get pre-approved, do not apply. There is a very high chance you will be denied outright.
Things to watch after approval
- Capital One is very strict with new customers, especially those without a checking account or other Capital One credit cards, and it is easy to trigger identity verification.
- Be careful to log in using a native US IP address. If possible, avoid using a VPN. If you really must log in from China, use roaming data from a US mobile number. I personally triggered identity verification after logging in multiple times through a VPN, and it was a huge hassle.
- Once identity verification is triggered, they usually ask for ID documents and proof of address. If you have a driver’s license plus accounts at other US banks, it is usually easy. If you only have a Chinese passport, you may need to ask customer service to escalate to a supervisor, since frontline reps often do not know how to handle passport verification.
- A very small number of people have triggered income verification. There is no need to panic. Just provide Capital One with statements showing as much in deposits as possible. As long as you submit everything on time, your card will generally not be shut down.
- Some people changed their income back to a normal amount after getting approved with the $500,000 method. Based on a few months of data points, it does not seem to matter much either way. The main thing is still to be careful about identity verification.
- If possible, try not to log in to your Capital One account too often. Use the card normally and set up autopay, which seems safer.
The current welcome bonus is 75,000 points. This card also gives you a $300 annual travel credit and 10,000 Capital One miles every year, which effectively offsets the $395 annual fee. It also comes with Priority Pass benefits, making it a good long-term keeper card. You can use the pre-approval tool to test whether you can get approved, with no hard pull and no impact on your credit score. My guess is that the $500,000 method below still works, so if you need it, do not wait too long!

This is a very strong bonus, so I added it to the leaderboard:
According to the official website, this card’s airport lounge benefits are being devalued again. Priority Pass will no longer allow guests, authorized users will no longer get free lounge access, and other negative changes will take effect on February 1, 2026. The changes are as follows:
- Authorized users will no longer be able to enter Capital One Lounges or Capital One Landings unless they pay $125 to activate this feature. You can add up to four authorized users, and each can activate this benefit.
- The complimentary Priority Pass will no longer allow guests. Yes, really — only the cardholder can enter. (Business Venture X still keeps the two-guest benefit.)
- The primary cardholder will need to spend $75,000 to unlock guest access: 2 guests at Capital One Lounges and 1 guest at Capital One Landings.
- Official announcement
Capital One’s own lounges are not the biggest issue, but losing guest privileges on Priority Pass is a real blow. For families, having only the Priority Pass membership from this card is no longer enough. Of these three negative changes, Business Venture X is also affected by all but the second one.

Benefits
- Annual bonus: Every year when you pay the annual fee, you receive 10,000 bonus miles, which is a nice ongoing perk.
- $300 travel credit: You get a $300 annual travel credit, but it can only be used through Capital One Travel. It is based on your cardmember year and refreshes each anniversary; any unused amount expires. In practice, this works like a $300 coupon. The good news is that the coupon can be used across multiple bookings. For example, if you first book something for $200, you get a $200 discount, and if you later book something for $600, you get the remaining $100 discount. However, after the change, purchases covered by this $300 credit are simply deducted directly and no longer earn 10x miles.
- Up to 4 free authorized users, which can help expand lounge access.
- Capital One Lounge: Both the primary cardholder and authorized users can enter for free, and each visit includes up to two complimentary guests. These are Capital One’s own lounges. Right now there is only one at Dallas/DFW in terminal D, with Denver/DEN and Washington/IAD scheduled to open next year.
- Plaza Premium Lounge: Unlimited access, including some Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse locations, with up to 2 complimentary guests. Click here for the list.
- Priority Pass Select membership: Both the primary cardholder and authorized users receive separate memberships and can each bring up to 2 guests for free, but it cannot be used for non-lounge PPS locations such as restaurants. You can enroll here: Enrollment link
- Hertz President’s Circle: Both the primary cardholder and authorized users can receive Hertz President’s Circle status.
- Global Entry/TSA Pre: Reimburses up to $100 in application fees, a standard benefit on most premium cards. Only US citizens or green card holders can apply.
- No foreign transaction fee (Foreign Transaction Fee)
Capital One Points Overview
- Point Value: Average value is 1.2c/p, so 100 points = $1.2 (Point Values & Analysis)
- Redeem Directly: Redeem at 1c/p toward travel purchases or various gift cards; cash out directly at 0.5c/p
- Transfer Partners: Transfer 1:1 to Air Canada miles (good for US-China flights and infant tickets), British Airways (short nonstop flights, Avianca miles (good for US-China business class, ANA and Asiana US-China first class, and no YQ on award tickets), Qantas Airways miles (good for domestic US nonstop flights and flights from the US East Coast to Western Europe), TAP Portugal Miles&Go, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, Flying Blue, Club Premier, Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, Finnair Plus, Wyndham, and Choice. Transfer times range from instant to several days.
- Points Feature: You can pool all of your Capital One points into one account and use them together.
- My Take: Capital One has fewer transfer partners, so compared with some other programs it is a bit less flexible and valuable. The more useful partners are AC and Avianca. Redeeming points for travel at 1c/p is also a solid option, and you can still earn miles, which makes it much easier than transferring points for award tickets.

My take
This card gives 10,000 points plus a $300 credit every year, while the annual fee is only $395. If you can fully use the travel credit, it is basically a negative-cost card to keep (Capital One miles are worth at least 1 cent each, and often more when transferred to airline partners). On top of that, it earns 2x everywhere and includes airport lounge access, so many people can comfortably cancel the coupon-book AMEX Platinum. The credit has to be used through the Capital One travel portal, but as long as you travel at least once a year, it is easy enough to use on airfare or hotels. If you want to combine it with a free night certificate, just make separate bookings and ask the hotel not to switch your room. Another big plus is the 4 free authorized users. Each authorized user also gets separate Capital One lounge access and Priority Pass Select, so you can even add family members and give everyone lounge access plus the ability to bring 2 guests.
Capital One miles are not as flexible as Citi, Chase, or AMEX points, but the transfer partner list keeps growing. Transfers to AC, BA, and CX are all reasonably useful. At worst, you can redeem at 1 cent per point toward travel purchases or for gift cards, which makes this effectively a 2% cash back card on all spending, or a 10% back card through the Capital One travel portal — still a very solid setup.
Application verification
Note that if this is your first Capital One card, they may ask you to verify your identity documents. So if you list your address and country as China on the application, you can still pass later by uploading a Chinese passport. One important detail: they will text you a link for uploading your ID documents, and you must open that link on your phone. If you open it on a computer, it will give an error message: (There was an issue on our side. We're working to figure out what went wrong and are unable to complete your verification at this time。). After uploading a photo of your passport, you will be asked to take a selfie, and then the verification can be completed. After that, you can directly create your online account and view your card information. If you already have a Capital One checking account, you may only need to verify your phone number and may not need to repeat identity or document verification.
About the "$500,000 method"
Based on recent data points, entering $500,000 as income gives you a good chance of getting instantly approved for this card. Quite a few people in the group have been approved this way. Of course, overstating your income is not a good practice, but according to reports, if this is your first Capital One card, it may be less likely to trigger a review. So you will need to decide for yourself whether you want to take that risk to get this high-value premium credit card. I personally got approved using the $500,000 method. Capital One only really has this one card that I think is worth applying for, and normal income figures never worked for me, so I decided to take a shot. If you are worried about a later review, you can change your income back to a normal number right after instant approval. Also, this link goes directly to pre-approval, so if you try $500,000 income and still do not get pre-approved, you can simply stop there and not continue with the full application, which I also would not recommend. Pre-approval is only a soft pull on your credit report, so it will not affect your credit score and will not be visible to other lenders. In other words, it is basically a risk-free test, and if you pass pre-approval, you can then decide whether to go after this offer. In addition, according to some readers, if your pre-approval is denied, you can try freezing your EX credit report and then running pre-approval again, and that may work.Previously, if you tried pre-approval, you might have seen a reason like this. My guess is that reporting a higher income helps a lot. The message basically means that based on your income, you already have a lot of available credit, so Capital One will not approve another new card. I tested this myself: ten days earlier I was denied pre-approval for exactly that reason, but after entering $500,000 income, I passed pre-approval instantly. I had previously been shut down by Citi and AMEX, and only Chase and Barclays cards were left, but this time the Capital One card did not seem to be affected by those previous shutdowns.
Capital One Credit Card Application Guide
- Application status can only be checked by phone: (800) 903-9177
- Capital One applications usually pull reports from all three credit bureaus. You may be able to avoid a hard pull by freezing some of your credit reports.
- You can apply for only one Capital One credit card every six months, including both personal and business cards. If you force another application, it will likely be instantly denied, but it will not result in a hard pull.
- One person can hold at most two Capital One personal credit cards at the same time, counting only Capital One-issued cards.
- If you do not qualify for the card you applied for, you may be automatically approved for a different card instead, usually a lower-tier version. You can choose to accept or decline it, and there will be no additional hard pull.
- New applicants may be asked to upload ID during the application process.
