This card’s welcome bonus has increased to 100,000 points, and it now comes with a number of useful new perks, such as a 15% rebate on award redemptions, free fitness classes, bonus Tiles, and more.

New benefits are as follows:

  • JetBlue Premier Companion Pass Credit: Spend $15,000 in a calendar year and you can earn a Companion Pass credit of up to $500; spend $75,000 and you can earn up to $1,500. Simply book a trip for your companion, and you’ll receive a statement credit after the trip is completed.
  • 25-Tile Bonus: Cardholders receive 25 Tiles at the start of each calendar year, which is essentially like having already completed half the progress needed for Mosaic 1 before your first flight.
  • ClassPass Credits: Through a new partnership with ClassPass, cardholders can receive up to 14 ClassPass credits per month to use for fitness classes and wellness experiences nationwide, including studios, spas, salons, gyms, and more.
  • TrueBlue Travel™ Statement Credits: Receive up to $300 per year in statement credits for hotel, car rental, cruise, and other travel purchases, with no minimum spend requirement. This is the old Paisly reimbursement, and it still requires booking through the JetBlue portal.
  • 15% Redemption Rebate: After redeeming points for award flights, whether on JetBlue or one of its airline partners, cardholders will get back 15% of the TrueBlue® points used.

Benefits

  • $300 Paisly reimbursement: Paisly is JetBlue’s travel portal, where you can book hotels, car rentals, travel packages, and various activities. That said, this reimbursement is pretty annoying: you get a $50 statement credit for every $250 spent, which means you can redeem it 6 times per calendar year, for a maximum of $300.
For every Paisly by JetBlue purchase (s) of $250 or greater through the use of the Card Account, you will receive a $50 statement credit, subject to a limit of 6 statement credits, for a total of $300 per calendar year per Card Account.
  • Priority Pass: Lounge memberships included with this card allow you to bring 1 guest. Note that authorized users on this card also receive their own separate Priority Pass card, but the authorized user card carries a $150 annual fee, so it’s not exactly a great deal.
  • $120 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck reimbursement: A standard perk on premium cards, covering up to $120 of the application fee.
  • Free checked bag: When the cardholder books with this card, the first checked bag is free. If there are other people on the same reservation, their bags are free too, up to three additional travelers, as long as the booking is paid with this card.
  • Priority boarding: Group A boarding
  • 10% redemption rebate: Every time you redeem JetBlue points, you get back 10% of the points redeemed. In effect, it’s like the points you earn from the welcome bonus are worth 1.1x as much.
  • Annual 5,000-point bonus: Starting in the second year, after you pay the annual fee each year, you’ll receive a 5,000-point JetBlue bonus. Valued at 1.2c/point, that effectively offsets $60 of the annual fee.
  • 50% off onboard food
  • Free monthly FICO score: You can keep tabs on your credit score; see: Free credit score comparison

Drawbacks

  • Points can only be redeemed for flights within the U.S. and to nearby countries; they cannot be used for flights between China and the U.S. or between the U.S. and Europe.

Points Payback Feature

It also has a Points Payback feature, which I assume is the same as on JetBlue Plus. Cardholders can use JetBlue points to offset card purchases of $25 or more, which is essentially cashing out points. According to user reports, the current redemption rate is 3,333 points for every $25, which works out to a redemption value of 0.75c/point. Although Chase, Amex, Citi, and Marriott points can all be transferred to JetBlue points, that 0.75c/point value is still a bit low. If there’s a 50%+ transfer bonus, though, it could be worth considering.

About JetBlue

JetBlue is the sixth-largest airline in the U.S., with a very dense route network along the East Coast and service to other major U.S. cities as well. It also flies international routes to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. Although JetBlue is a low-cost carrier, it is known for excellent service.

Points overview: JetBlue points have a fixed value, roughly around 1.2c/point. You can redeem points for any JetBlue flight, and the number of points required depends on the current cash price of the ticket. There is a family pooling feature that lets you combine points with family members and use them together. Points never expire. In addition to earning points from credit card spending, you can also earn them from ticket purchases based on price, at a rate of 6–8 points per dollar depending on the cabin. There are also promotional offers.

Elite status overview: You can earn Tiles through credit card spending and flying to work toward JetBlue elite status. You earn 1 Tile for every $1,000 in credit card spending and 1 Tile for every $100 spent on airfare. JetBlue Mosaic offers perks such as priority boarding, 2 free checked bags, and 3 extra points per dollar earned.

My take

Personally, I think this card is still a bit underwhelming. The welcome bonus isn’t that impressive, and having to use the reimbursement in 6 separate transactions is honestly pretty annoying. The included Priority Pass card and TSA reimbursement are things a lot of premium cards already offer, so there’s nothing particularly unique here. Most importantly, compared with JetBlue Plus, this card only adds a $300 reimbursement and a Priority Pass card, while charging $400 more in annual fees. It’s just not worth it. If you’re really a JetBlue fan, just go for the JetBlue Plus card.

JetBlue co-branded cards

How to apply

  • If you currently have, or have had, the JetBlue Plus card, you won’t be eligible for the welcome bonus
  • This is an airline co-branded card, so you can enter your JetBlue membership number when applying. If you don’t have one, one will be assigned automatically

Barclays Application Guide

  • Check Barclays credit card application status
  • Barclays credit card applications generally pull TransUnion (TU), and HPs on the same day can be combined
  • If you already have another Barclays card and your new application is not approved, there will usually be no hard pull
  • You can call the reconsideration line (866-408-4064) to speed up credit card approval or request another review of a denied application. They may verify your identity and address, ask why you want the card, and review your employment and repayment situation, so be prepared. You may need to move credit limit from an existing card to get approved.
