A few days ago, Southwest Airlines suffered widespread flight cancellations at its two major hubs, Chicago Midway and Denver, due to extreme weather. That then triggered a chain reaction, leading to 2500+ flight cancellations in a single day. The issue was that flight crews and aircraft could no longer be matched up properly, and the airline’s outdated software system effectively collapsed, leaving staff to handle scheduling manually.

Many passengers who booked Southwest flights are now receiving emails that include a 25,000-point code, which can be redeemed into any Southwest account. The sneaky part is that the subject line does not mention this compensation, so if you see an email from Southwest, make sure to open it and check.

The steps to redeem the code are shown below. Don’t forget to redeem it, because this code expires on March 31, 2023.

If you haven’t received it yet, there’s no need to worry for now. It should be sent out gradually to affected passengers. If you still get no response, you can contact Southwest customer service.
