Didi is a household-name ride-hailing app in China, with adoption that’s no less widespread than Uber. I’m sure many readers have used it and had a great experience.
Didi’s ability to hail regular taxis is especially awesome
The day before yesterday, when I was booking a ride, I suddenly noticed that foreign credit cards could be used for payment, so I went ahead and tried linking my Chase Sapphire Reserve.
It showed that the card was linked successfully, which made me really happy. Being able to use a foreign card in my third-tier city honestly felt better than being tipsy.
The next day, I used it for an actual ride when it was time to pay, and it really did feel great.
The exchange rate was about 6.90, which was perfectly reasonable, and there was no need to worry about DCC.
Since I’m used to thinking in U.S. dollars, the total always looks shockingly high when paying in RMB.
But when the charge settles in USD, it somehow feels much better.
Didi gives out lots of discounts. A longer ride came to $9.16, and a shorter one was $1.26. That’s about as satisfying as it gets.
In China, just forget about U.S. Uber. Well, to be fair, they do have an affiliated relationship there...
As you can see from the screenshot above, Didi also triggers the CSR travel credit.
And it also earns 3X rewards.
Does this make you even more determined to keep your CSR without overthinking it?
Finally, a quick complaint about the apps from several hotel groups: their icons have absolutely no distinctive character....
