AMEX Cards Will No Longer Work on eBay Starting August 17

According to Bloomberg, eBay will stop accepting AMEX payments starting in August 2024. The main reason is that eBay believes AMEX’s processing fees are too high. This probably refers to paying directly on eBay with an AMEX card. If you use an AMEX card linked through PayPal, it will likely still work normally for eBay purchases.

EBay on Wednesday notified customers about the change, which is set to take effect Aug. 17.

“After careful consideration, eBay has decided to no longer accept American Express globally effective August 17 due to the unacceptably high fees American Express charges for processing credit card transactions,” the company said in a statement.
