[2026.2 update] The public welcome bonus has already dropped to 75,000 points! This card now has quite a few practical reimbursement benefits, and it basically pays for its own annual fee. If you have Citi Gold Checking or private banking, you can also get the annual fee waived, which makes this card very suitable for long-term holding. And now that you can transfer to AA miles, the value of TYP has improved quite a bit as well, reaching up to 1.5c/p
This card's welcome bonus is pretty good, and I’ve added it to the rankings as well
Reimbursement and benefit tips are below
- Citi Nights dining 6x: You can time your dining, buy gift cards at the cutoff time through DoorDash, and in China you can use Meituan to buy vouchers at the cutoff time. All of these can extend the 6x earning to a variety of everyday spending
- $300 annual hotel credit: There isn't a particularly special trick here—just check whether the price is worth it before you book. If you book a hotel and then cancel, the coupon may not come back right away, so you can contact customer service to ask about it.
- $200 annual Splurge Credit: Select Best Buy, then buy an Amazon e-gift card on the Best Buy website to trigger the credit—you don't even have to leave home. Note that Best Buy selling Best Buy e-gift cards is charged as a third-party purchase, so it cannot be used to trigger the reimbursement. But gift cards from other third parties are charged directly by Best Buy, so they all qualify.
- $200 annual Blacklane chauffeur service: Register for Blacklane through a BofA link and you can get $100 off your first ride, then $20 off each of the next 10 rides. This discount is credited directly to your Blacklane account after registration and is not tied to any specific payment card, so paying with the Citi Strata Elite lets you stack it perfectly with the $100 reimbursement. Smart people know to open a few Blacklane accounts and save them for future reimbursements~promo link (even though it says you need BofA Diamond Honors to use it, it does not actually check whether you have that status)
- Citigold and Private client annual fee discount: Citi Gold Private customers get the first year annual fee waived (receive a $595 credit); Gold and Gold Private customers get a $145 annual fee discount each year. You can first open a Citi checking account to earn a bonus, then upgrade to gold
- 4 American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge passes each year: First of all, this is a pass issued by Strata Elite, not an Admirals Day Pass (some lounges refuse Day Pass users when they are full), so you can enter without issue. Also, once the electronic voucher is generated, it is valid for 24 hours, so if you have two layovers, you can use it each time. And it can be used to bring up to 3 children under 18 in for free! Of course, adults need their own pass. Overall, this pass is still a very good value, and you get four of them per year

Highlights
- Citi Nights dining 6x: Citi created a limited-time 6x dining offer called Citi Nights. The time window is Friday and Saturday nights from 6 PM Eastern Time to 6 AM the next day. Both restaurants and delivery are included.
- $300 annual hotel credit: This is based on the calendar year. Each year you get a $300 credit for hotel bookings made through Citi Travel, and you need to book at least two nights to use it. Any unused amount will automatically carry over to the next booking.
- $200 annual Splurge Credit: This is also based on the calendar year. You first need to log in to citi.com/splurgecredit and select the merchants for reimbursement. There are currently four merchants, and you can choose up to two reimbursement merchants. The options are Live Nation, Ticketmaster, American Airlines, and Best Buy. I think only AA and Best Buy are really useful: AA can be used to buy airline tickets, and Best Buy has a large number of third-party gift cards in store, even Visa gift cards.
- $200 annual Blacklane chauffeur service: $100 every half year, official website. If you register for Blacklane through a BofA link, you can get $100 off your first ride and $20 off each of the next 10 rides.
- Citigold and Private client annual fee discount: Citi Gold Private customers get the first year annual fee waived (receive a $595 credit); Gold and Gold Private customers get a $145 annual fee discount each year
- $120 Global Entry / TSA PreCheck application fee reimbursement
- Priority Pass Select Lounge Membership: You can enter Priority Pass airport lounges for free and bring two guests for free; additional guests are $35 each. This does not include the restaurant partners.
- 4 American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge passes each year
- Authorized user benefits: Each authorized user card has a $75 annual fee, comes with its own Priority Pass membership, and can also bring two guests. In addition, Splurge Credit can be used under the authorized user's name
- The Reserve by Citi Travel: Booking hotels through this channel gives you a $100 credit, free breakfast for two, early check-in, late check-out, room upgrades, and more. Similar to AMEX's FHR
Citi card benefits
- Free FICO credit score: from Equifax, with historical data shown on a chart
- Retention offers are relatively generous: when the annual fee posts, threaten to close the card and you may receive a promotion
ThankYou Points usage
- Point value: Average value is 1.5c/p, 100 TYP = $1.5 (Point value and analysis)
- Direct redemption: Redeem at 1c/p for Statement Credit
- Point transfers: 1:1 transfer to AA (good for U.S.-China and U.S.-Europe redemptions, especially premium cabins); 1:1 transfer to Virgin Atlantic miles (good for Delta One nonstop awards and ANA round-trip first class between the U.S. and Japan); 1:1 transfer to Avianca miles (good for U.S.-China business class, ANA and Asiana first class between the U.S. and China, with no YQ on ticketing); 1:1 transfer to Qantas Airways (QF) miles (good for nonstop U.S. domestic awards and U.S. East Coast to Western Europe). You need to hold the ThankYou Premier or Prestige to transfer TYP to airline and hotel points.
- Program features: You can pool all TYP points into one account and use them together. TYP points on each card expire separately, so it’s best to use up the TYP from a card before closing it. You can transfer up to 100k TYP per year to a friend’s account.
- My quick take: For TYP airline partners, just keep AA, AV, and VS straight. Hilton as a hotel partner is also not really worth transferring to. Redeeming for cash/gift cards is only worth 1 cent per point. So the value is about 1.3c, and a few of the more niche airline partners still make it interesting.

My take
This card is still pretty good value for CitiGold and Private customers, after all, the $300 hotel reimbursement has no luxury-hotel restriction and is still pretty easy to use. That alone basically covers the annual fee. On top of that, the AA and chauffeur-service credits are also usable. I also wrote a separate article about 10 reasons to apply for this card for everyone’s reference.
We previously mentioned that some applicants for this card were sent a 4506c by Citi, asking for income and tax return verification, and their cards were immediately locked, making it impossible to spend or complete the welcome-bonus requirement. Recently, WSJ also reported on this issue. Citi responded pretty well: for the affected users, it waived the first-year $595 annual fee outright, and the 100,000-point welcome bonus required no spending at all—it was given for free. So everyone can apply for this card with confidence now. Either Citi does not send a 4506c and you use the card normally, or it sends one and you get the bonus and annual-fee waiver for free.
A while ago, we shared the community-made unofficial 100,000-point application links for this card, in three waves total. In recent days, many people who applied through those links have received alerts in the Citi app (including people who have not even received the card yet). If you call in, they will ask you to verify your identity, or you may need to wait for a letter from Citi and submit a 4506c to unlock the card. This 4506c authorizes Citi to check your prior year tax return with the IRS, which is also proof of income. If you overstated your income, there is a good chance your card will be shut down, or even all of your Citi cards. At the moment, only a small portion of people from the first wave of unofficial links have received alerts, while most people from the last two waves have received alerts. In short, if you used the unofficial links, log in to the app and check. Be prepared. For situations like this in the future, everyone should still use the normal application links and not go through unofficial links.
Application
- Expected to have at least a $5,000 starting credit line (with a decent chance of starting at $10,000)
- If you previously had Strata Elite, or if you converted another card that earned a welcome bonus within the past 2 years into Strata Elite, you will not receive the welcome bonus
- Citi application status link or call: 877-343-4118
- 8/65/95 rule: You can apply for only one personal card every 8 days, only two personal cards every 65 days, and only one business card every 95 days. This refers to application submission limits, regardless of whether you were approved or not.
- 24/48-month welcome bonus rule: If you have received a welcome bonus on a ThankYou Points card within the past 24 months, you will not be eligible to receive the bonus again. For AA products, the restriction is 48 months, but both rules apply only to the same card; there is no restriction across different card families.
- You can call the reconsideration line (800-763-9795) to speed up the credit card approval process or ask a representative to review a denied credit card application again.
- Having a Citi Checking/Gold relationship may help with your application.
