Cons
- The annual fee is as high as $450, and there is no way to offset it through other means. The similarly priced AMEX Platinum can recoup its annual fee through airline credits and AMEX offers, and it also comes with similar lounge benefits.
Using United Miles
One of United’s biggest strengths is its extensive international route network, which makes it more convenient to use. United is one of the founding members of Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance, with 25 airline members. United also has many non-alliance partners, which makes MileagePlus one of the most versatile currencies for redeeming award tickets. To emphasize: United miles can be redeemed not only for United-operated award tickets, but also for Star Alliance partner-operated award tickets and partner award tickets, so they are extremely versatile. They can be used for domestic U.S. flights, flights from the U.S. to China, Europe, and Latin America, and even flights from China to Japan and Europe.
My Thoughts
This card is basically no different from the personal United Club card, except that it is the business version.
The main benefit of this card is unlimited access to United Clubs at airports and participating Star Alliance lounges worldwide while you hold the card. In addition, tickets and award tickets purchased with this card both come with two free checked bags. It’s a must-have for frequent United business travelers. Of course, all purchases earn at least 1.5 miles per dollar, which also makes it a favorite for high spenders. And if you’re not a business traveler, applying for this card just to show it off for a year is fine too.
Application
- Moderate difficulty to get approved: with a good relationship with Chase, about a year of credit history, and some income, you should be able to get approved
- If this is your first business credit card application, please read “Business Credit Card Introduction” first
- Because this is an airline co-branded card, it is recommended that you register for a UA frequent flyer account in advance and enter the number on the application. Otherwise, a new one will be generated, which is more cumbersome
