New All details have been confirmed by TPG, and 10x points on Lyft purchases have been added.
Honestly, if you use Lyft now and pay with CSR, you can earn 10x UR + 3x Hilton + at least 1x Delta. If you really take rideshares often, or like DoorDash, CSR is worth keeping long term. If you do not use rideshare much and do not like food delivery, then you can consider downgrading; CSP may be a better fit for you.

More details have now come out. To borrow a popular Chinese phrase, CSR has gotten a “warm upgrade”:
- Starting January 12, 2020, the annual fee will increase to $550. For existing cardholders, the annual fee will start changing to $550 beginning in April 2020.
- At the moment, upgrades or product changes from lower-tier cards are not possible. You need to wait until the new version is officially announced on January 12 before upgrading. Chase’s official explanation is a “system upgrade.”
- Starting January 12, 2020, cardholders will receive Lyft pink membership, valued at $19.99/month
- $60 DoorDash Credit each year
- In addition, CSR/CSP cardholders will also receive 2 years of DoorDash delivery-fee waiver benefits, valued at $9.99/month
For most people, this change is actually a devaluation of CSR. But if there is a new-card bonus of 100,000, then this change could still be quite attractive.
The following is the news flash originally published in November 2019
Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card (CSR) has been highly recommended by many readers ever since its debut because of its rich benefits and strong rewards. It started with a welcome bonus as high as 100,000 UR and a $300 calendar-year travel credit, and was later cut by Chase to a 50,000 UR welcome bonus and a $300 cardmember-year credit, but it still remains widely praised. If there is one major complaint, it is that the 5/24 policy prevents many readers from applying. Even the previously cracked application links surprisingly did not include a bypass-5/24 link for CSR. According to Doc, Chase has long planned to refresh CSR, raising the annual fee to $550 while following AMEX by adding some extra credits, possibly dining or food-delivery-related credits.
After CSR burst onto the scene, it put major pressure on AMEX, Citi, and BofA, Capital One in the premium card space. AMEX once refreshed its flagship product, AMEX Platinum (by raising the annual fee to $550 and adding various credits), and Citi Prestige also followed with a number of changes. Not all of those changes were good, but they did increase the pressure on CSR to evolve as well. Even the newer mid-tier card AMEX Green has been trying to challenge CSR.
If you are interested in this potential refresh, here are some things to consider:
New Upgrades are no longer available before the official refresh
- If you hold multiple CF or CFU cards,
- If you have held CSP for over one year and spend a lot on travel or dining, then holding CSR may be a better choice, especially with the strong 1:1.5 UR redemption for Travel.
- If you are still under 5/24, you may want to wait a bit. After the CSR refresh, the welcome bonus may increase, so you could consider applying then.
[Note: To upgrade, make sure the card being upgraded has a high enough credit limit.]
