【Updated 2026.1】This card has updated its welcome bonus to two 50,000-point free night awards, worth about $700 total. For a no-annual-fee card, that’s a pretty solid welcome offer. This card also lets you redeem Marriott points at 0.8c/p toward airfare or Marriott hotel purchases, which is a fairly practical cash-out option.
Note that this no-annual-fee card does not come with an annual free night award. If you want the version that includes one, choose the $95-annual-fee Boundless instead (and if you apply for this card, you temporarily won’t be eligible for the Marriott Boundless bonus).
This card added Pay Yourself Back, which lets you use Marriott points to offset airfare or Marriott hotel purchases. The rate is 12,500 points to offset $100 in purchases, which means Marriott points are redeemed at 0.8c/p. That’s actually about the same value you’d often get when redeeming for hotel stays. So if you don’t need a Marriott card with an annual fee (or the Ritz-Carlton card), you could downgrade to the Bold to add another way to use Marriott points.
Categories may change from time to time without notice. Points can be redeemed for a statement credit in any increment, towards qualifying purchases with Pay Yourself Back at a value of $100 for every 12,500 points.
Unfortunately, this redemption option is capped at $750 per year, which means you can redeem at most 93,750 Marriott points annually.

- 15 elite night credits: You get 15 elite night credits each year, which can help you qualify for higher Marriott elite status.

Cons
- This card is subject to Chase 5/24, and its Marriott-related benefits are not especially strong.
About the Points Program
- Point value: Average value is 0.8 c/p, 100 Marriott points = $0.80 (Point value and analysis)
- Hotel redemptions: Marriott points can be redeemed for stays at Marriott hotels, Ritz-Carlton, and hotels that were previously part of SPG. Marriott now uses dynamic pricing, so the number of points required depends on the room rate. You can also redeem using cash+points. All-points bookings qualify for a stay 5, pay for 4 offer.
- Point transfers: Marriott points can be transferred to the following airline miles at a 3:1 ratio, with an additional 10% bonus when transferring to UA. In addition, every 60,000 points transferred earns an extra 5,000-mile bonus, which means a maximum transfer ratio of 3:1.25 for miles (eligible miles only). Air Canada Aeroplan (AC) miles (domestic U.S. flights, one-way economy tickets between the U.S. and China, emergency flights, and infant tickets on two-cabin itineraries); Alaska Airlines (AS) miles (domestic U.S. flights, U.S.-China flights, U.S.-China two-cabin itineraries, free one-way Stop Over); ANA miles (U.S.-China flights, round-trip economy for just 60,000, business class for 95,000); AA miles (U.S.-China CX and JL two-cabin itineraries, no fuel surcharges); BA miles (domestic U.S. flights and short nonstop flights between China and Japan, very low change/cancellation fees, emergency tickets); Delta miles (domestic U.S. flights, U.S.-China flights, can be redeemed at 1 c/p); UA miles (U.S.-China economy, domestic U.S.)
- Point characteristics: Points can be transferred between different accounts, with an annual limit of 100,000 points. When booking rooms, you can combine your family members' points with no limit. Points expire after 24 months with no activity.
- My quick take: Marriott inherited SPG's extremely strong flexibility and can be transferred to many very useful airline miles, with pretty good transfer ratios as well. Point value for hotel redemptions is not as high as Hyatt points, but it is still decent. The ability to pool points for the whole family is also a big plus.

My Take
As a no-annual-fee card, the 50,000-point welcome bonus is worth about $400, which is decent. Travel purchases earn 2x points, which works out to 1.6% back if you value Marriott points at 0.8 cents each; Marriott purchases earn 3x points, or about 2.4% back. If you’re a Marriott fan, that’s not bad. If you don’t need the annual free night award on the Marriott Boundless, then this no-annual-fee card can work as a downgrade option from the Marriott Boundless.
Personally, I think it makes more sense to apply for the Marriott Boundless first, then decide in year two whether to downgrade to this card or keep paying $95 for the free night award.
