【07/07 Update】The 5x is gone now, and it has returned to the usual 3x (CSR) and 2x (CSP).

According to Reddit, starting on July 1, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card quietly began offering 5x on dining purchases instead of the usual 3x. Even delivery apps like Grubhub were triggering it. It is still unclear whether this was intentional on Chase’s part or just a bug in how merchant categories were coded. In any case, if you have any restaurant or food delivery spending lately, this card should be your first choice.

I tested the CSR 5x myself by using WeChat Pay to top up a family member’s phone balance, and it did indeed earn 5x. No idea what the cap is, though.

In addition, Sapphire Preferred was also earning 3x on dining purchases instead of the usual 2x.
