Avianca's LifeMiles program has just launched a new miles-purchase promotion (this program frequently offers promotions). It can be used to redeem long-haul premium cabins on Star Alliance flights. Different members may be offered different promotions.

The exact bonuses are:

  • Buy 1,000-20,000 miles and receive a 140% bonus.
  • Buy 21,000-200,000 miles and receive a 160% bonus.

If you buy 200,000 LifeMiles at a 155% bonus (not including bonus miles), it will cost you $6,600 for 520,000 LifeMiles, with an effective rate of 1.27 cents per mile. LifeMiles allows members to buy up to 200,000 miles per account per year (excluding bonus miles).

Miles purchases are processed directly by Avianca LifeMiles, so LifeMiles purchases count as airline spend. So you may want to use one of the following cards to buy miles, since you can earn bonus points on airline spend.
