Drawbacks

• This card's $195 annual fee is a bit high, the companion ticket does not arrive until the second year, and there are many usage restrictions.
• Unless you spend heavily with Delta, it is better for earning miles to use the no-annual-fee AMEX EveryDay Card (1.2x-2.4x) or the annual-fee EveryDay Preferred Card (1.5x-4.5x).

Delta SkyMiles overview:

• Value: miles are worth about 1.4 cents each, mainly because the award chart changes frequently and redemptions are not as stable as airline miles from AA, UA, and others.
• Redemptions: at least 35,000 miles for a one-way flight between China and the U.S., 5,500 miles for a one-way flight within the U.S., 7,500 miles for a one-way flight within China, and 80,000 miles for business class between the U.S. and Australia. A great tool for short-haul flights within the U.S., especially for readers living in the U.S. West and Northeast.

My Take

This card is very similar to the personal version, with only $1,000 more in required spending for the welcome bonus. If you’ve already applied for the personal version, you can still apply for the business version and earn the welcome bonus. From a long-term holding perspective, the business credit card has a slight edge, after all, it comes with benefits attached to AMEX business credit cards.

How to Apply

This is a Delta co-branded credit card, so you’ll need to enter your Delta account number when applying (if you don’t have one, one will be assigned automatically). Still, we recommend registering for a Delta SkyMiles account on the official site first.

• For the same AMEX credit card, the public welcome bonus is generally available only once (once-per-lifetime restriction)
• You can call the reconsideration line (800-528-4800, 877-399-3083, 866-314-0237) to speed up credit card approval or request a review of a denied application.
• AMEX limits you to 4 credit cards and 10 charge cards total.
• You can apply for a total of two AMEX credit cards every 90 days, excluding charge cards.
• After you submit your application, a pop-up may appear telling you that you are not eligible for the welcome bonus. In that case, it is usually best not to continue with the application (detailed analysis)
