Hotel Overview

Yinchuan has two Hyatt hotels, Hyatt House and Hyatt Place. Both are in the Joy City shopping complex, so they’re convenient in every way, and the most important perk is free breakfast. In addition, Hyatt House rooms have kitchens, although I didn’t use them. Overall, the service was very good, the facilities were brand new, and 5,000 points is a very worthwhile stay. It also counts as one brand.

Redeeming the Stay

I booked one night with 5,000 Hyatt points. The cash rate was around ¥600 per night, so the value was pretty good, and I was told the room got a small upgrade. Although I didn’t stack any other points-back promotions, I still earned a qualifying night, which can be paired with Hyatt’s promotion for staying at 5 brands to receive an FN. Guide to Booking for Family Members

If you’re not in China, you can usually book with your own account and then add the person staying; points and qualifying nights can then all be credited to your own account. But in China, bookings made on behalf of others are generally scrutinized more strictly, and the benefits, points, and qualifying nights usually follow the guest who actually stays. Hyatt makes family bookings pretty easy: you can book with your own account first, then simply change the guest through the WeChat mini program, and the qualifying night can be credited to the staying guest’s account.

In fact, when I book domestic stays for family members, I more often use Hilton points, since I have a lot of them and redemptions in China are very good value. You only need to transfer the points to a family member’s account and then make the booking. But it’s best to first find a way to get family members Hilton Gold status.
