【2020.11 Update】I’m getting ready to move again and noticed a few new changes, mainly these three:

  • The Amazon offer has been extended again, now through the end of the year. This coupon is very useful (see below), and it can be used across multiple purchases until you hit the cap. If you are moving, or if you still have an old address you have not changed yet, this is worth considering. After you get it, you can also stack it with this year’s Amazon shop with points offer. If you do not need it yourself, you can also give it to someone else. (Each account can get the code once per year, and it can be used across multiple orders.)
  • A BofA Checking account opening bonus has been added: $100 after two $250 DDs. In fact, you do not need to move at all. You can simply go to http://bankofamerica.com/neighbor and enter code PSR100CIS when applying for the checking account.
(1) Enroll in this offer online by using the “Open now” link on the offer page or by entering the offer code at the time of account opening. (2) Open a new eligible Bank of America personal checking account online by December 31, 2020. (3) Set up and receive two Qualifying Direct Deposits of $250 or more each to your new personal checking account within ninety (90) days of account opening.
  • USPS now offers a paid forwarding extension service (not recommended). It used to be a flat $1 for one year of forwarding, but now you can choose a 6-18m extension service, and the fee is relatively expensive. It may be more cost-effective to just pay $1 and move again.

This post is not just about USPS change-of-address forwarding. If you are already very familiar with using USPS forwarding when moving, you can skip to the end for the Amazon coupons and how to use them.

If you live in the US, moving is hard to avoid, and eventually some people return to their home country. But what happens to the mail sent to your old address? What if you still want to apply for credit cards after moving abroad, or you want your address tied to a roommate but that roommate changes address later? USPS officially lets you change your address at any time, and mail sent to your old address can be forwarded to your new one.

Introduction to USPS Change of Address

USPS has long allowed users to create an account and track their mail and packages. You can also refer to ymlulu’s article here:

Forwarding Features

USPS is the United States Postal Service and delivers all kinds of mail, magazines, and packages, including important items many of us care about such as credit cards, checks, and tax forms. When you move, make sure to update your address with USPS.

  • You can forward most mail for one year after moving, except credit cards
  • Newspapers and magazines can only be forwarded for 60 days
  • USPS package services do not currently support forwarding
  • You can update forwarding individually, or for the whole family
  • If you opt in to mail notifications, USPS will email you scanned images of the mail scheduled for delivery each day, like this:

Knowing in advance that your new credit card has arrived feels pretty nice.

How to Change Your Address

  • In person: Go to a USPS post office and fill out a form. The whole process is completely free, and you will receive coupons.
  • Online: Go to the official site here 【click link】 and follow the steps to enroll. There is a $1.05 processing fee, and you can choose from various moving coupons (the coupon selection changes periodically).
  • After registration, USPS will send you a confirmation email, which will also include the relevant coupons.

Online Steps

The process is fairly simple, so I will not go through every detail here.

  • Choose the type of mail forwarding you need: individual (generally everyone with the same Last Name), family (all in), or business
  • Choose whether the move is permanent or temporary, then fill in the address information
  • Pay the $1.05 fee with your own credit card
  • Get to the coupons page

A couple of changes worth noting:

  • Your credit card no longer needs to have a billing address matching either your old or new address; third-party addresses are now allowed
  • With online registration, the coupons are no longer mailed separately to your new address. You can access them immediately online (Print or Text), and you can also view them in the email USPS sends you.

Recent Amazon Move Coupons

KUKU happened to be moving recently, and after happily paying the $1.05 fee with the no-annual-fee Hilton Aspire (which also helped make progress toward a welcome bonus...), an Amazon coupon showed up: 10% off. (Lowe's $20 off is not bad either; the rest depend on your needs. There were 15 offers total.)

How to Get It

After clicking See detail, I found that it is capped at $100 in purchases, for up to $20 off.

Even though the deal is small, if you like maximizing offers, it is still worth exploring. Choose to print it out.

How to Use the Amazon Move Coupon

The official Terms are here 【click here】. In short: it only works on physical items sold by Amazon.com; third-party e-gift cards do not qualify.

Steps to Use It

  • The code is not entered directly at checkout. You first need to enroll it to your Amazon account. Just open the URL containing your code mentioned above (the one with USCC101 in the screenshot). You can also open it from the USPS email; clicking View site in the email will take you to Amazon to register the offer.
  • I recommend using an Amazon account that also has another MR/UR/Discover point offer available so you can stack them
  • After opening it, you will see this screen. Just fill it out; the addresses can even be in the same city.
  • After clicking Get my Move Discount, Amazon will recommend a bunch of moving-related products. Ignore those and just buy whatever other sold-by-Amazon.com items you want. At checkout, you will see Amazon Move Promo (up to -$20.00).
  • After you enroll, Amazon will send you an email.

Purchase Example

For the Apple AirPods Pro priced at $234.98, the Move Promo was automatically triggered at checkout.

It could also be stacked with my MR 20% off offer (-$20 here, then another -$47), bringing the final after-tax price in Texas to $181.83.

It can also be paired with MR 30 off. Not quite as good, but still decent at $200 out of pocket. I had both MR 20% off and $30 off, and unfortunately only one of them could stack with this Move Promo.

Other Notes

  • At the moment, changing your address when moving gets you this code, though it is unclear when the offer will end.
  • If you really need the code, you could consider moving out and then moving back.
  • Each coupon can only be used on one Amazon account.
