This card is now issued by US Bank, and the benefits have improved slightly: the 5% earnings cap on Amazon/Whole Foods/AWS purchases has been raised from the first $12,000 to the first $15,000. Also, the 2% categories now apply to your top three spending categories, which is a bit better than the old fixed categories. The welcome bonus appears to vary: some Prime members are seeing $250, while regular members are only seeing $100. That said, we only recommend this card for Prime members. Without Prime, the Amazon return drops to 3%, which is not really worth it.

  • Broad 5% coverage: This basically covers most Amazon- and Whole Foods-related purchases, and AWS also earns 5%, making it a good fit for business users. If you are not a Prime member, the rate drops to 3%, so we strongly recommend signing up for Prime first. Only the first $150,000 in Amazon-related purchases each year earns 5% cash back.
  • Earn 2% cash back in your top 3 spending categories; the eligible categories are shown below.

My Take

This new card looks pretty solid overall, and since it has no annual fee, it can be worth keeping long term. Just remember that you really need a Prime membership to get the 5% cash back categories. Compared with the Chase Amazon card, the rewards structure and benefits are similar, but this card has the added advantage of covering AWS and Amazon Business, which are both nice merchant categories. Also, compared with the Amazon Store Card, this card also adds 5% cash back at Whole Foods.
