Hilton often advertises that award nights start at 5,000 points, but in practice it is very hard to find 5,000-point rooms in the places we actually travel to. So where are these 5,000-point hotels?

Where 5,000-point award rooms are located
Hilton’s official website actually provides a search tool for this called Pointsexplorer. Using this tool, we can quickly find the 23 remaining Hilton properties worldwide pricing at 5,000 points as of August 2019 (filtered by the Max redemption level, so no need to worry about variable pricing). They are distributed as follows:
Given the notoriously weak value of Hilton points, Hilton can adjust award pricing caps at any time. Please refer to the official website for the final redemption rate.

A visual map of the 5,000-point properties outside Turkey
Given the large number of 5,000-point hotels in Turkey, if you do not have many points or need multiple rooms, these 5,000-point properties could be worth considering when traveling in Turkey. I’ve included a separate map here:
Stackable perks
Elite status
The hotels listed in this article come in only four flavors: Hilton Hotels & Resorts (2 properties), Hampton Inn (8 properties), DoubleTree (1 property), and Hilton Garden Inn (12 properties). Gold and Diamond members booking award stays receive the following on-property benefits:
- Hilton Hotels & Resort, DoubleTree by Hilton: 1,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points per stay
- Hampton Inn: 250 Hilton Honors Bonus Points per stay or choice of snack and non-alcoholic beverage
- Hilton Garden Inn: 750 Hilton Honors Bonus Points per stay or a complimentary Hot Cooked-to-Order Breakfast for you and up to one guest registered to the same room each day of your stay, breakfast for two or points, choose one
If you do not already have Diamond status, the fastest way is to apply for the AMEX Aspire credit card!
If you only want Gold status, then for US readers, the quickest options are to apply for one of the various versions of the AMEX Platinum card and enroll, or get it directly with the AMEX Hilton Surpass credit card or AMEX Hilton business credit card.
Let’s answer the question in the title about how to stay for a month: since Hilton point redemptions come with the fifth night free benefit, in theory you only need 20,000 points to stay 5 nights. If you get a Hilton credit card with a 150,000-point welcome bonus and complete the required spending, you can end up with about 160,000 points total. Redeeming in 5-night blocks, that works out to 160,000/20,000*5 days = 40 days. Even a continuous 30-night stay would require only 120,000 points, and each stay can also earn you a little elite rebate back. The people of Turkey are quite nice.
A certain North American outlet’s Hilton card marketing line says only 30 days, which really undersells it???. This author is more practical: realistically, you can get to 40 days.
Stacking Promotions
Hilton promotions can sometimes be very friendly to award stays, and free night certificates or points stays can also trigger quite a few promotions. (Note: before Hampton Inn in mainland China rejoined the Hilton points system, these promotions generally excluded mainland China Hampton Inn properties. Of course, that is no longer the case.)
Past DPs
Hilton’s quarterly official promotions sometimes explicitly state that award stays and free night certificates qualify. For example, 2018 Q1’s Points Unlimited offered 2K per stay, plus an additional 10K after 5 stays. If you had Gold or Diamond status and could find a 5,000-point award night (such as the Hilton Resorts or DoubleTree by Hilton mentioned above), then across 5 stays you would spend 25,000 points total, but also get back 25K (2K*5+1K*5+10,000), effectively making it a free stay. Or, with the final no-brainer breakfast math, you could spend 250*5=1250 points for 5 stays at Hilton Garden Inn, or 750*5=3750 points for 5 stays at Hampton Inn. The ideal is beautiful, but in practice, when promotions like this are live, award availability at these hotels tends to become, well, “you know.”
A few other offers I personally tested that stacked with award stays:
2018 Winback offers: I was targeted for CRM WINBACK Hilton Honors 5 OFFER. At the time there were around 5 versions of the offer; I registered for: 5,000 Bonus points on your next stay of two nights or longer within 90 days of registration. I redeemed points for a two-night stay at a Double Tree by Hilton in Bangkok, and ultimately received 1,000 DIMOND MYWAY BONUS and 5,000 Winback Bonus.
The 2019 Asia-Pacific "2019 Visa Platinum APAC-Instant Silver Hilton Honors Status-5,000 Bonus" promotion expired on July 31. I also mentioned this Visa network promotion in my article about overseas cashback with mainland China credit cards. If you had an Asian Visa Platinum card and happened to register at the time, then when redeeming points for Hilton stays in APAC, you might still have a chance to receive 5,000 points even though the promotion expired (and you do not need to actually pay with that Visa card at all, YMMV). My own DP was a stay from August 5-7 at Joyze Hotel Xiamen, Curio Collection by Hilton, redeeming points for two nights. I received 1,000 DIMOND MYWAY BONUS and 5,000 from 2019 Visa Platinum APAC-Instant Silver Hilton Honor Status-5,000 Bonus. The 225 base points were from purchasing an additional half-price child breakfast, and I paid with the AMEX Aspire credit card, as shown below:
Note: Joyze Hotel Xiamen, Curio Collection by Hilton offers excellent value; I cover it in another article.
Current promotions
If you missed those promotions, no worries. Please follow our site and we will update these favorable promotions as soon as possible: Roundup of promotions from major hotel groups + Airbnb
Here are a few current offers. You can try to see whether you are eligible to register. KKU successfully registered for the 7500-point version, while LD, who has Gold status, was targeted only for 5000 points:
- Earn up to 5,000 points after two stays, 2,000 points for the first stay and 3,000 for the second stay, through the end of 2019
- Earn up to 7,500 points after two stays, 2,500 points for the first stay and 5,000 for the second stay, through the end of 2019
- These two offer pages call it: Multi-Stay Bonus offer from Hilton Honors, but it does not seem to appear in the offers section of the account. It may be called: CRM MULTI STAY BONUS OFFER Offer valid through December 31 (my guess), or it may simply not show up in the account offers section.
Two more newly spotted offers:
- Earn up to 7,500 points after two stays, 2,500 points for the first stay and 5,000 for the second stay, through the end of January 2020 (this one seems to be open to everyone?), and after registration it appears in the account offers section as “Media Join Hilton Honors and Earn 7, 500 Bonus Points”
- There is also one that shows up in the offers section: LC Multi-Stay up to 7,500 Points Offer valid through March 31, 2020 (also two stays, 2500+5000). I do not even remember where I added it from. The fine print says it requires a Paid Stay, but Hilton promotions can be strangely unpredictable, so maybe it will trigger anyway.
- I successfully registered for two separate 7500 offers at the same time. There is also an LC Multi-Stay 7500. I have no idea whether all three 7500 offers can trigger simultaneously. The first two also do not say that award stays are excluded, so I should test it soon with two 10,000-point Hampton stays.
- For this type of promotion, KKU’s advice is: if you can register, just register. Don’t worry about whether you will actually use it; you never know when it might trigger randomly. ~
Is paying cash also worth it?
Considering that the lowest-tier award stays usually are not very expensive anyway, and Hilton points are always relatively low in value, cash bookings can also be a good option when paired with a strong promotion.
