Something noteworthy happened recently: Hyatt acquired Mr&Mrs Smith, which makes this topic interesting again. So will Hyatt eventually match Mr & Mrs Smith’s top-tier, relatively easy-to-get elite status? The answer is probably yes, though it is unlikely to become Globalist. Still, having an elite status on hand ahead of an acquisition could be quite useful.

About Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels

Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are concentrated mainly in Europe, but there are also properties in markets many readers care about, including China and the US. Quite a few are also part of FHR, so they can be used together with the FHR benefits and credits on the AMEX Personal Platinum Card.

There are 186 hotels in the US:

There are 16 in China, and every one of them is a luxury hotel; almost all are also in FHR:

How to Do It

Long story short: free status is always nice, and sometimes it can also be matched to rental car, airline, or other hotel programs. This time the offer gives the top tier. Here is the link:

You need to enter the first few digits of an AMEX credit card number. Use the digits shown in the image.

After that, you will be asked to wait for an email notification.

The activation email usually arrives in about 5-10min.

After logging in, you should see GoldSmith status in your account, which is the top tier. Benefits are listed here:

Overall, the benefits are not especially strong, but better than nothing, so we will not go into detail here.

If it still does not work, you may just be unlucky.

Other Thoughts

The main idea here is to have this status ready in case Hyatt offers a match. My guess is that Hyatt probably would not match it to Globalist, though hopefully I’m wrong, but it may well match to the next-lower Explorist tier, which would still be decent. In any case, it only takes about 2 minutes, and it never hurts to have some hope in case it pays off.
