Home Chef is also a meal-kit delivery company that sends pre-portioned ingredients along with matching recipes. Like Blue Apron, HelloFresh, and Plated, it is a weekly meal subscription service with different featured dishes each week. This time, I decided to give it a try because of the money-maker deal from Swagbucks.

About the Home Chef Money-Maker Deal

Recently, Swagbucks offered 1500-4000 SB (worth $15-$40) for ordering Home Chef, and this can be stacked with $35 off for new Home Chef users. So the first delivery only costs $20 (regular price $50-$20). At the best payout level, you could come out $20 ahead and also get two meals for two people for free. Since Home Chef is basically paying us to try their product, of course we shouldn’t miss it! Details here:

This time, I scheduled delivery for 10/14. The default two meals for the week were pork chops and steak rolls, plus one free fruit pack.

Western recipes often use a grill to cook meat, so if your home doesn’t have a range hood, be prepared to ventilate well ~

Home Chef Unboxing Experience

  • Yesterday I got a Fedex notification saying the ingredients shipped from Chicago, and this morning they were already at my door.
cf2
  • When I opened the box, the detailed cooking instructions for these dishes were right on top.
cf3
  • The recipe instructions are very clear with both pictures and text, so you can just follow them step by step.
cf4
  • The packaging is a little different from Blue Apron. The ingredients for each dish are packed separately, and the fruit is also packaged separately. The outermost layer is ice packs.
cf5
  • Took out all the meal packs.
cf7
  • The free fruit appears to be organic. Not sure how it tastes yet.
cf8
  • Ingredients for the steak rolls (probably a Mexican-style dish).
cf9
  • Took out the ingredients for the pork chops and got ready to start cooking.

Cooking Experience

It wasn’t hard to cook by following the steps. The main issue was that the pork chops needed to be grilled, so if you do this at home, once the smoke starts, your fire alarm may go crazy. So if possible, it’s better to grill outdoors. Here’s the finished pork chop:

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside — pretty good ~
