[12/29 Update] HBO Max’s $14.99 monthly subscription price is before tax. The author was just charged $17.23, so this may not actually be profitable in the end. If you can make good use of HBO Max, it may still be worth considering; if you’re not especially interested, it’s probably best to skip it.

The basic structure of the HBO Max promotion is as follows: first, you must get a promo code through AT&T or Cricket to receive a free 1-month trial. Log in to your AT&T or Cricket app account and scroll to the bottom of the homepage to find the promotion link:
Use the link in the app to register for an HBO Max account and you can get a free 1-month trial. AT&T users can use the promo code from the app and go to http://HBOMax.com/redeem/att。 to claim the free 1-month trial. After the trial period, if you keep the paid subscription for 2 additional months, you can get a $25 Mastercard gift card. The cost per month is $14.99. Most people’s AMEX cards should have an HBO Max offer: spend $14.99 at HBO Max and get $7 back, up to 3 times. A screenshot of the offer is below:
This offer expires on 2/26/2021. Therefore, if your second bill posts before February 26, you may be able to trigger the AMEX offer twice and come out $9 ahead. If HBO Max does not allow prepay, you may only be able to trigger the AMEX offer once and still come out $2 ahead. The $25 gift card will be issued 4 weeks after the second bill. HBO Max has lots of HD TV shows and movies, including many high-quality HBO originals, and supports major TV platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Chromecast. Through this promotion, you can get 3 months of HBO Max service and make a small profit, which seems pretty decent to me. Of course, if you’re not especially interested, remember to cancel in time so you don’t end up paying more than expected.
