【2021.8 Update】Based on data from the DOC comments and reader groups, Fluz is no longer categorized as Small business. However, purchases still code with dining, office, and travel recognition (and can normally trigger bonus multipliers). The four categories are as follows:

  • FFLLC TRAVEL codes as travel
  • FFLLC GROCERY codes as grocery
  • FFLLC DINING does code as dining and can reliably trigger AMEX dining reimbursement and dining bonuses
  • FFLLC GIFTCARD codes as nothing special and receives no bonuses

Fluz is a very, very interesting tool, and the author has mentioned it many times in the "Meika 101" and "Meika Guide" WeChat public accounts.

In this article, we talk about something practical: how to cleverly use Fluz to complete various credit card reimbursements and bonus multipliers. If you are only interested in dining reimbursements, go directly to section 3.1 of this article.

Fluz registration

After registering for Fluz, your first order may be immediately flagged by risk control. Ignore it; it will be automatically lifted after a few days (you will receive an email notification). If you are flagged multiple times, you will need to upload a valid ID to remove the restriction (passport is not accepted).

Ways to earn

Let’s first summarize all of Fluz’s ways to earn:

  • Use purchase categories to trigger various reimbursements and multipliers
  • Use PayPal checkout to complete PayPal purchases and multipliers
  • Link a Chinese credit card to complete overseas online multipliers or designated-category multipliers
  • Use Fluz to buy a certain Visa gift card ($0.99/$) [out of stock all year round, see Part 4 of this article]

Fluz purchase categories

Fluz itself is categorized as Small business. Last year, it played a major role in AMEX Small business reimbursements, and even helped the author complete $50 reimbursements on multiple Chinese AMEX credit cards (USD versions). In January 2021, the Fluz team even made a stunning breakthrough by correctly categorizing different gift cards sold on the platform, so that purchases coded as their original categories.

Even better, Fluz created an interesting "category conversion" for card enthusiasts. This allows gift cards for Amazon, Target, and Walmart merchants to code under multiple categories.

You can go to the links below to see which gift card purchases qualify:

The bonus categories that people care about most (which require direct card spending) currently include:

Dining category

MCC Code 5812 can be used to trigger the temporary monthly dining reimbursement on AMEX hotel and airline co-branded cards as well as dining multipliers on dining cards, with up to 4x MR, 3x UR, 5x TYP, and quarterly 5%. The qualifying categories include:

  • Amazon Meal Kits [usable on Amazon.com], minimum purchase $50
  • Walmart Cafeteria [usable on Walmart.com], minimum purchase $25

On 04/02, the author tested a purchase of Amazon Meal Kits using a Hilton Aspire credit card. The transaction showed as FFLLC DINNING, but the AMEX offer trigger notification did not arrive immediately (AMEX glitches often, which is normal).

The gift card was directly deposited into Amazon.com, and on 04/02 the transaction coded as dining and earned 7x

On 04/05, the temporary dining benefit for AMEX hotel and airline co-branded cards during the pandemic was triggered, and the reimbursement was received. Very nice.

Compared with buying other dining gift cards, this reimbursement method may be more practical for many people. For other methods, see:

Office category

You can use it with some Chase business credit cards, up to 5x UR, and the temporary 5x MR on AMEX Business Platinum

  • Amazon Business [usable on Amazon.com]
  • Walmart Business [usable on Walmart.com]
  • Apple [not really recommended]

Grocery category

You can use it for some temporary 3x UR on Chase CSR, 4x MR on AMEX Gold, 3x TYP on Citi Premier, and to complete the 10x grocery bonus on AMEX Platinum credit cards. Note that grocery coding may have been heavily used already, and the coding category seems to have changed now; YMMV.

  • Amazon Fresh [usable on Amazon.com]
  • Walmart Grocery [usable on Walmart.com]
  • Target
  • Kroger

About Vida Beach

The name sounds a bit poetic, but it is actually a Visa gift card. Fluz launching this gift card purchase was definitely intentional. You have to admire Fluz’s marketing team. Could you imagine being able to buy a Visa gift card for $0.99?

Unfortunately, Vida Beach gift cards are often out of stock now, so it is basically impossible to get in on the deal. If you see one, consider buying it immediately.

Linking non-U.S. credit cards (such as China-issued cards)

Fluz can link credit cards from multiple countries or regions. In theory, you can link many cards, but all of them require U.S. billing addresses. So as long as your card is not sensitive to billing, after passing Fluz’s small test charge verification, you can be pretty free within the risk-control range. In summary:

  • The card needs to be insensitive to a U.S. address as billing
  • It must pass the issuer’s risk control
  • It must pass Fluz’s small-charge verification and risk control

In practice, the above means Chinese credit cards, especially USD-denominated AMEX cards, are basically fine, and some Visa and Mastercard cards also work. However, some banks do not work because they think Fluz is not a merchant they commonly see, and that bank is SPD Bank. The author’s test showed that domestic banks will definitely call to check on the first transaction; just answer honestly. After the restriction is lifted, verify the small Fluz charge and you can continue using it.

Fluz risk control

Fluz has its own risk-control system. As mentioned above, after registration your account may be automatically frozen (or after the first purchase). At that time, do not worry about it; the review will be automatically lifted after a few days. There are also spending limits, frequency limits, etc. In general, the author recommends not making more than 5 purchases per day.

If you are flagged multiple times, you will need to upload a valid ID to remove the restriction (passport and expired passports are not accepted), and you may even need a video verification session to review your ID, HT: Leo
