A little while ago, quite a few bloggers reported that Emirates had suddenly raised the mileage required on some routes. For example, flights from Dubai to Europe and several US cities went up by about 20%. Emirates has now responded publicly.
In short, between December 22, 2022 and January 31, 2023, the miles required for First Class and Business Class on many routes will increase. Based on the routes seen so far, the increase is roughly 20%. Of course, there is a small sweetener as well: the mileage bonus for Platinum members will increase from 75% to 100%, Gold from 50% to 75%, and Silver from 25% to 30%. Clearly, they are taking care of people who buy tickets with cash and earn miles that way, rather than people like us who get miles by transferring points.
In line with current market conditions, Emirates Skywards is introducing an increase on Skywards Miles required for Upgrade Rewards and Classic Rewards booked in Business Class and First Class. The increase will be gradually introduced on reward tickets across the Emirates network between 22 December 2022 and 31 January 2023.To reduce the impact of this change on our most loyal customers, we will be increasing the bonus Skywards Miles earning opportunities for all Platinum, Gold and Silver members travelling with Emirates.On all Emirates flights booked from 31 January 2023 onwards, Skywards Platinum members will earn a further 100% of the Economy Flex+ Miles earned on a given route (increasing from 75%) ; Skywards Gold members will earn 75% of the Economy Flex+ Miles earned on a given route (increasing from 50%) ; and Skywards Silver Members will earn 30% of the Economy Flex+ Miles earned on a given route (increasing from 25%) .
All in all, enjoying Emirates premium cabins will cost more going forward.
