eBay recently announced that starting next year it will begin collecting Internet Sales Tax for four U.S. states (actually five). Even before this change, buyers in many states were already required to pay this tax. For the full list, please check the eBay website. One frustrating part for many people is that a fairly large portion of products on eBay are resold used items, so having to pay tax even when buying secondhand goods is understandably annoying.
