This card's welcome bonus has been increased to 125,000 AA miles, but the annual fee has also gone up to $695, and there aren't any especially good credits to offset it. If you're applying just for the welcome bonus, it can still be worth it. The main target audience for this card is AA frequent flyers, especially business travelers who want Admirals Club access. For everyone else, it's basically a one-year-and-done card. After a year, you may want to product-change it to avoid the steep annual fee.
This bonus is still pretty strong, so I added it to my credit card bonus rankings.
If you're interested in keeping the card long term, applying for Citi Strata Elite is actually better. 75,000 ThankYou Points can also be transferred 1:1 to AA miles. Its reimbursement perks also broadly cover what this card offers, and it includes Priority Pass lounge membership as a basic substitute; the annual fee is the same $595. The only area where AA Executive may still have the edge is AA's own lounges, checked bags, and earning elite status. So for AA loyalists and people who truly need those perks, this card can still make some sense. Likewise, the lower-annual-fee Citi Premier can also transfer TYP to AA miles. Its annual fee is only $95, and its bonus categories are even more comprehensive!
Citi and American Airlines have announced major changes to the Citi / AAdvantage Executive credit card. Starting August 23, 2026, the annual fee for new applicants will rise from $595 to $695, while adding American Airlines Vacations reimbursement, Omni hotel status, Avis elite status, and more Loyalty Points bonuses. From an application perspective, if you apply before August 23, you should be able to keep the old annual fee and still receive the new benefits right away.
Overall, the new perks added in this refresh are enough on paper to cover the $100 annual fee increase, but the restrictions are pretty annoying: the AA Vacations reimbursement is split into first-half and second-half annual periods, Lyft requires at least 3 rides per month, and the Omni free-night benefit also requires you to pay for two nights upfront. Users who fly AA often, use Admirals Club, and can naturally use these credits are still good candidates to keep the card; users who don't fly AA often will find it harder to justify the $695 annual fee.
- Up to $500 in American Airlines Vacations reimbursement per year, with up to $250 in each of the January–June and July–December periods; unused amounts do not roll over across periods;
- Up to $100 in annual American Airlines in-flight and Admirals Club spending reimbursement, replacing the old 25% off inflight dining perk;
- Lyft Credit increased from up to $10 per month to $15 per month, with a yearly cap of $180, but you still need to complete 3 eligible Lyft rides in the month before you can use it;
- The old $10-per-month Grubhub Credit has been removed;
- Booking through AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars increases earnings from 10x to 12x AA miles;
- Extra Loyalty Points bonuses increased from a maximum of 20,000 LP to 40,000 LP: earn 10,000 LP at 50,000, 90,000, 165,000, and 240,000 LP;
- New Omni Select Guest Champion status; after booking directly and completing one qualifying Omni stay of at least two consecutive nights in a calendar year, you can receive one free-night certificate;
- New Avis President’s Club elite status;
- The card tier has been upgraded from World Elite Mastercard to World Legend Mastercard.
- Existing core benefits remain unchanged, including full Admirals Club membership, free checked bags, priority boarding, up to $120 in annual Avis/Budget rental car reimbursement, and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck reimbursement. The authorized-user fee also remains the same: the first three authorized users cost $175 total, and each one after that is $175.

Highlights
- Admirals Club Membership: You can bring two guests. This perk is amazing because authorized users also get Admirals Club access, meaning they can bring two guests into Admirals Club even when not traveling with the primary cardholder (the authorized-user fee is $175 total for the first three cards, then $175 each after that). Note, however, that authorized users cannot access Flagship Lounges or oneworld lounges.
- American Airlines Vacations reimbursement: Up to $500 per year, with up to $250 reimbursed in each of the January–June and July–December periods. Unused amounts do not roll over.
- Up to $100 in annual AA spending reimbursement: Can be used for American Airlines in-flight purchases and spending inside Admirals Club, replacing the old 25% off inflight dining perk.
- Rental car reimbursement: Up to $120 per year for Avis or Budget rentals.
- Lyft reimbursement: Up to $15 per month, or $180 per year. You still have to complete 3 eligible Lyft rides in the month before it can be used, so the restriction is still pretty annoying.
- Omni hotel status and free-night certificate: Comes with Omni Select Guest Champion status. Each calendar year, after booking directly through Omni and completing one qualifying stay of at least two consecutive nights, you can receive one free-night certificate.
- Avis elite status: Comes with Avis President’s Club elite status.
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee reimbursement every 5 years
- Metal card: The card has also been upgraded from World Elite Mastercard to World Legend Mastercard.

- AA hotel and rental car bookings: Book through AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars to earn 12x AA miles.
- Priority boarding and free checked bags: Enjoy priority boarding on AA flights. On U.S. domestic AA flights, the first checked bag is free for you and up to eight companions.

AA miles overview
AA miles can be redeemed for American Airlines flights as well as for many oneworld and other partner airlines such as Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways. American Airlines' own flights use dynamic pricing, but it is still possible to find lower-priced award tickets. Partner awards also retain relatively clear award charts, so there are still plenty of solid redemption opportunities. Generally speaking, we conservatively value AA miles at about 1.5 cents each; when used for international business or first class, they often can deliver more than 2 cents in value. In particular, redeeming for premium-cabin international flights on partners such as Japan Airlines and Qatar Airways is usually a better deal than redeeming for domestic economy seats in the United States. Compared with Delta and United miles, AA miles still offer solid overall value. The downside is that earning opportunities are relatively limited, so they are better saved for high-value redemptions.
My take
When people hear Citi AAdvantage Executive (Citi AA Exec), they probably think of the famous 100,000 AA miles welcome bonus from years ago. Chasing that bonus also led countless people down the MS (manufactured spending) rabbit hole. This card is Citi and AA's premium card, and its competitors are Chase United MileagePlus Club and AMEX Delta Reserve/Platinum. Its main target audience is AA frequent flyers, especially business travelers who need Admirals Club access. For everyone else, it's mostly a one-year-and-done card.
Before the first year ends, you may want to product-change this card to Double Cash.
Apply
- The welcome bonus will be credited to your AA frequent flyer number. If you already have an AA frequent flyer number before applying, please enter it on the application. If you do not have one, it is recommended that you first register for an AA account on the AA website to get a frequent flyer number. If you do not enter one, a number will be assigned to you automatically, but you will need to call Citi to get the exact number.
- If you received this card's welcome bonus within the past 48 months, you are not eligible for the bonus this time.
- If you product changed a card that received a welcome bonus within the past 48 months into this card, you are not eligible for the bonus this time.
- Citi application status link or call: 877-343-4118
- 8/65/95 rule: You can apply for only one personal card every 8 days, only two personal cards every 65 days, and only one business card every 95 days. This refers to application submission limits, regardless of whether you were approved or not.
- 24/48-month welcome bonus rule: If you have received a welcome bonus on a ThankYou Points card within the past 24 months, you will not be eligible to receive the bonus again. For AA products, the restriction is 48 months, but both rules apply only to the same card; there is no restriction across different card families.
- You can call the reconsideration line (800-763-9795) to speed up the credit card approval process or ask a representative to review a denied credit card application again.
