【Updated 2026.1】The welcome offer on this card has increased to 90,000 points! You need to spend $5,000 in six months. It’s still a pretty solid deal. Other Avios-earning cards like Chase Iberia and Chase Aer Lingus have also increased to 90,000-point welcome offers.
BA miles are best suited for nonstop flights, especially short-haul nonstop flights. Redemptions are also very convenient—you can just search directly online.
This welcome offer is very strong, and I’ve also added it to the welcome offer ranking.

Highlights
- Companion ticket after high annual spending: Spend $30,000 in a calendar year and you’ll receive a companion ticket. There are quite a few restrictions: it is issued in the form of a Voucher, the first ticket must be a BA flight booked with BA miles, and the itinerary must depart from the US and ultimately return to the US. For details, see here.
- Up to $600 in award ticket taxes/fees statement credits: You must book a BA transatlantic international travel award ticket, and the flight must depart from the US to qualify for reimbursement. The itinerary can include code share flights; the reimbursement cap is $100 per trip in economy and $200 in business or first class; this benefit can be used up to three times per year in total. This benefit does appear to have some practical value, especially if you plan to use award tickets to go to the UK or Europe. East Coast to UK flights can be pretty good, because BA redemptions usually come with high taxes and fees. However, note that BA business class requires twice as many miles as economy, and first class requires three times as many, so in most cases it’s still not worth redeeming for business or first. Also, if your redemption includes two segments and each segment has relatively high taxes and fees, you might consider booking them separately. That way, one trip could trigger reimbursement twice. Since BA miles are priced separately by segment, this does not affect the number of miles required. Detailed terms: BA credit card taxes/fees reimbursement benefit
Drawbacks
- No priority boarding when flying BA (though OneMoreDay probably wouldn’t fly BA without an Error Fare anyway), no lounge access, and no free checked bag allowance.
About British Airways Miles
- Avios are very easy to redeem. Award tickets on oneworld partners can all be searched on the website (for how to search on the BA website, see the second half of this article). Award tickets on non-oneworld partners can also be booked by phone.
- There are many domestic AA/US flights in the US, and those living in the Pacific Northwest can also redeem Alaska Airlines flights. BA miles cover a very wide range of routes within the US.
- One-way award tickets from the US East Coast to Europe can start at just 12,500 Avios (BOS-DUB), and New York to Berlin can also cost only 20,000 Avios one way.
- A great program for short-haul flights: New York to Toronto, San Francisco to Los Angeles, and Shanghai to Tokyo are all solid one-way uses.
- Redeeming for AA flights comes with Group 1 boarding.

My Take
Is it worth keeping long term? If you don’t fly BA a lot every year, this is a classic one-year card. The companion ticket sounds great, but in practice it’s really pretty useless. The fuel surcharge on one round-trip ticket can already be $700-800, and the companion ticket does not waive the fuel surcharge. For two tickets, that means $1,400-$1,600 in fuel surcharges combined, so you may as well just buy the tickets outright. That said, the 100,000-point welcome bonus mentioned here is quite substantial, and if you have enough spending ability, it can still be worth maximizing.
【Updated 2019.8】This card added two new benefits. First, booking directly with hotels earns 2x miles. Second, it offers up to $600 per year in award ticket taxes/fees reimbursement. Details below:
- You must book a British Airways transatlantic international travel award ticket, and the flight must depart from the US to qualify for reimbursement. The itinerary can include non-transatlantic code share flights.
- The reimbursement cap is $100 per trip in economy and $200 in business or first class.
- This benefit can be used up to three times per year in total.

Honestly, this benefit would be much better if it covered taxes and fees on all BA mile redemptions, without the three-use limit, and instead simply had a total cap of $300 or $600.
In addition, this benefit should be stackable with the companion ticket earned through high annual spending. You could redeem one award ticket, use the companion ticket to cover the companion’s base fare, and use the reimbursement benefit to offset the taxes and fees—that would be pretty nice.
How to Apply
- Application difficulty: It’s recommended to apply after at least 6 months of credit history. Once you’ve gotten started with Chase, this card is fairly easy to get approved for.
- Note 2: Since this is a co-branded credit card with British Airways, if you already have a BA frequent flyer number, you can enter it when applying; otherwise one will be assigned automatically.
