The normal Capital One to JAL transfer ratio is 1,000:750. With this 30% bonus, it improves to 1,000:975, which is very close to 1:1. Transfers require a minimum of 1,000 Capital One Miles, and the name on the Capital One account must match the name on the JAL Mileage Bank account. Once transferred, the miles cannot be reversed, and JAL miles expire at the end of the 36th month after they are earned. Standard accounts cannot extend them through transfers, flights, or other activity.

This is a very solid ratio, especially for booking JAL-operated flights and oneworld multi-carrier award tickets. For example, a one-way JAL business class award from North America to Japan costs just 55,000 miles at the base level. However, JAL business class uses PLUS dynamic pricing, and fuel surcharges on some long-haul routes can also be high. So this transfer is only recommended for people who have already found a base-level award seat, confirmed the taxes and fees, and are ready to ticket immediately. If you do not have a specific use in mind, do not hoard points just for the 30% bonus, since JAL miles cannot normally be extended beyond the 36-month validity period.
