Discover and Capital One have officially announced their merger, and Discover is now part of Capital One. However, they did not say much about what will happen to specific credit cards. Based on Discover’s FAQ, things will continue to operate as they do now for the time being, but it’s unclear what may change later.
Generally speaking, if Capital One acquires Discover, Capital One’s own products probably will not change much. Discover’s products, however, could eventually be absorbed, especially cards with overlapping features. At the moment, Discover cards still look pretty solid, so if you’re interested, it may be worth applying now—if some of them are discontinued later, you may no longer be able to get them.
