About Barclays View

This is a new card launched by Barclays in April, and it is not currently open to direct applications. Barclays specifically designed it to receive product changes from discontinued Barclays co-branded cards. Cards that have already been converted include:

  • Barclays Apple (forced product change on May 17, 2021)
  • Barclays Financing (forced product change on May 7, 2021)

The next one is the following card, which will be forcibly converted on October 22, 2021. After the change, rewards can no longer be redeemed for Uber Cash. The no foreign transaction fee feature will also be removed.

Benefits

The benefits on this card are actually pretty good:

  • Rewards rates: 3x points on dining and takeout; 2x points on internet, select streaming, cell phone service, TV service, and supermarkets; 1x on everything else
  • Cash back redemption: statement credit or cash redemption directly (minimum redemption amount unknown)
  • No annual fee
  • Official page

One nice detail is that its eligible streaming services list is fairly broad:

  • Apple TV、Apple Music、CBS All Access、Direct TV、ESPN Plus、Fubo TV、Hulu、Netflix、NFL Game Pass、NFL Sunday Ticket
  • NHL TV、Pandora、Showtime、Sirius XM、Sling TV、Spotify、Starz、Vudu、YouTube Premium、YouTube TV

My Take

For a no-annual-fee card, this one offers pretty solid value. Barclays likely designed a card like this to retain customers from co-branded cards whose partnerships ended. If you are forced into this product change, it may actually be worth keeping and trying out. Since it has no annual fee, it can be a decent card to use for dining.
