JetBlue (JetBlue Airlines) moved its credit card program from Amex to Barclaycard. The JetBlue Card: Pros

  • This card has no annual fee, but still comes with a 10,000-point bonus.
  • You can earn 3x points on JetBlue purchases, 2x points on dining and grocery, and 1x on all other purchases.
  • Onboard purchases on JetBlue (alcohol, food, and movies) are half off.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

The JetBlue Card: Cons

  • Earning points is not the most cost-efficient. Earning 3x True Blue points is less attractive than earning 3x TYP/MR from Citi Prestige, Citi ThankYou Premier, and AMEX Premier Rewards Gold.

JetBlue True Blue Program

The points this card earns are True Blue points, which can be redeemed for JetBlue flights. The required points for flight redemptions are fare-based. For economy redemptions, the value is usually around 1.4 cents per point. Redemption for JetBlue's Mint (first-class) generally has a slightly higher value, usually around 1.7 cents. The only limitation is that regardless of fare, the minimum points needed is 3,500. You can also use True Blue points for GetAways packages of flight + hotel, which can sometimes offer better value than redeeming for flights alone.

Apply or Not?

For people living on the East Coast, JetBlue's route network is fairly complete, and you have plenty of opportunities to fly JetBlue. For a no-annual-fee card, earning a bonus worth well over $100 is already pretty good. Just keep in mind that Barclaycard has recently been strict on the number of fresh card applications; if you’ve applied for many cards lately, it may be best to wait before you apply.
