Ameriprise Bank currently offers an attractive bank account bonus for existing customers: open a new Checking account and complete a total of $1,500 in eligible Direct Deposit within 90 days after opening to receive a $400 bonus. There is also a $1,000 bonus for Savings. One important thing to note: this offer is only for existing Ameriprise customers, as well as employees of Ameriprise Financial and its affiliates. If you are not an Ameriprise customer, we do not recommend opening an account without first confirming that you qualify. If you do not have a relationship with Ameriprise yet, you can first open a Savings account, become an existing customer, and then join the next promotion.

About Ameriprise
Ameriprise Financial is a long-established U.S. diversified financial services company that dates back to 1894 and currently has more than 10,000 financial advisors. The company mainly provides investment management, retirement planning, insurance, wealth management, and banking services.
Ameriprise Bank, FSB is the bank under Ameriprise Financial and offers products such as Checking, Savings, CDs, and loans. Its deposit accounts are FDIC member accounts and are eligible for FDIC insurance up to applicable limits.
This bank is positioned a little differently from a typical retail bank. It mainly serves customers who already use Ameriprise for investing, financial planning, or advisor services. That said, its Checking and Savings accounts are digital banking accounts that can be managed through the website and the Ameriprise Financial App.
Ameriprise Checking
Opening bonus
To get the $400 Checking bonus, you must meet the following requirements:
- Open a new Ameriprise Bank Checking Account between July 1, 2026 and December 29, 2026;
- Receive at least $1,500 in eligible Direct Deposit within 90 calendar days after the account is opened;
- Keep the Checking account open and in good standing when the bonus is credited.
The Direct Deposit can be split across multiple transactions; there is no requirement that any single deposit be $1,500. Once you meet the requirement, Ameriprise will deposit the $400 bonus into the Checking account within 14 business days after your eligible Direct Deposit total reaches $1,500.
This bonus will be treated as interest income and reported on IRS Form 1099-INT.
What counts as an eligible Direct Deposit?
The official terms define Direct Deposit fairly strictly. It must be new, recurring deposits received through ACH, including:
- Employer payroll deposits;
- Payroll system deposits;
- Pension payments;
- Government benefits or payments from government agencies such as Social Security.
The following types of deposits are explicitly not considered eligible Direct Deposit:
- Regular check deposits;
- Personal transfers such as Venmo and Zelle;
- Wire transfers;
- Internal transfers between Ameriprise accounts;
- Merchant refunds or other merchant transactions;
- Regular ACH transfers that do not come from an employer or government agency.
Because of that, this promotion is not suitable for relying on Fake Direct Deposit. According to the official terms, ordinary ACH transfers initiated by a brokerage firm or another bank may also not count, so it is best to use real payroll or government benefit deposits.
Eligibility restrictions
- The offer is only for existing Ameriprise customers and eligible company employees;
- Each Ameriprise Group ID can receive the Checking bonus only once;
- Customers who have previously received any Ameriprise Bank Checking opening bonus cannot participate again;
- The account must not be closed before the bonus is credited;
- The bank has the right to determine whether a deposit qualifies as Direct Deposit based on ACH codes and other information.
Under the terms, you do not need to keep a $1,500 balance after the Direct Deposit has posted. Compared with bank bonuses that require tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars on deposit, this $400 bonus is still very solid.
Checking account features
Ameriprise Bank Checking is a fairly full-featured digital checking account with the following common functions:
- ACH transfers to and from external banks;
- Zelle receiving and sending;
- Paper checks;
- Online Bill Pay;
- Mobile check deposit;
- Domestic and international wire transfers;
- Visa debit card;
- Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay;
- Overdraft Protection when linked to an eligible Ameriprise Savings account.
Please note that Ameriprise does not accept cash deposits, and you also cannot deposit cash or checks through an ATM. Ameriprise financial advisors also cannot accept deposits on behalf of clients.
Account rates and fees
Ameriprise Checking does pay interest, but the current APY on all balances is only 0.03%, which is basically negligible. As a result, this account is better suited for Direct Deposit, everyday payments, and earning the opening bonus, rather than for parking a large cash balance long term.
| Item | Fee or standard |
|---|---|
| Minimum opening deposit | $25 |
| Minimum balance after opening | $0 |
| Monthly fee | $0 |
| Account closure fee | $0 |
| Overdraft Fee | $0 |
| Non-Sufficient Funds Fee | $0 |
| Ameriprise ATM withdrawal fee | $0 |
| Third-party ATM fee reimbursement | Up to $20 per statement cycle |
| Domestic wire transfer | $30 each |
| International wire transfer | $35 each |
| International debit card transaction fee | 1% of the transaction amount |
| Official Check | $25 each |
| Stop Payment | $25 each |
| Debit card replacement | $0 |
ATM withdrawal reimbursement
Ameriprise Bank itself does not charge ATM withdrawal fees. If the ATM operator charges its own fee, regular Checking customers can receive reimbursement of up to $20 per statement cycle.
- Regular customers: up to $20 reimbursed per statement cycle;
- Achiever Circle customers: up to $25 reimbursed per statement cycle;
- Achiever Circle Elite customers: unlimited reimbursement of third-party ATM fees.
You can withdraw cash at ATMs with the Visa or NYCE logo, but those networks support withdrawals only, not deposits. If a third-party ATM fee is not automatically recognized by the system, you can contact customer service within 90 days of the transaction and submit the ATM receipt for manual reimbursement.
Overdraft Protection
Ameriprise Checking itself does not charge overdraft fees or NSF fees. Customers can also link their Checking account to an eligible Ameriprise Savings account to enable Overdraft Protection.
When the Checking account balance is insufficient, the system will automatically transfer funds from the Savings account in whole-dollar increments of $100 each time, and no transfer fee is charged. However, if the Savings account balance is below $100, the system will not initiate a transfer.
Each Overdraft Protection transfer counts toward the withdrawal limit on the Savings account. Ameriprise Savings typically allows only six qualifying transfers per statement cycle, and additional transfers may be charged at $10 each.
Ameriprise Savings
In addition to the $400 Checking bonus, eligible existing Ameriprise customers can also open a new Savings account and earn up to another $1,000. If you complete both offers, the maximum total bonus is $1,400.
- Application link
| Amount deposited within 30 days after opening | Required holding period | Cash bonus | Bonus rate based on minimum amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25,000–$49,999.99 | 90 days | $350 | 1.40% |
| $50,000–$99,999.99 | 90 days | $650 | 1.30% |
| $100,000+ | 90 days | $1,000 | 1.00% |
You need to fund the account within 30 days after opening, and then maintain the required daily minimum balance for 90 days starting from the end of that 30-day funding period. If your balance falls below the current bonus tier during the period, you may be moved down to a lower tier; if it falls below $25,000, you will not be eligible for the bonus.
As of July 29, 2026, the APY for Ameriprise Savings is as follows:
| Account balance | APY |
|---|---|
| $0–$24,999.99 | 2.50% |
| $25,000–$99,999.99 | 3.05% |
| $100,000+ | 3.15% |
Rates can change at any time. The Savings bonus by itself is not especially high, but if you are already an Ameriprise customer and have a lump sum of cash you do not need for the short term, the combined Checking and Savings promotions can still be attractive with a maximum total bonus of $1,400.
Summary
Ameriprise Bank Checking is a fairly standard digital checking account. It has no monthly fee, no minimum balance requirement, no overdraft fee, and no NSF fee, and it also offers up to $20 in third-party ATM fee reimbursement per statement cycle. The everyday features are also pretty solid.
The real appeal is the $400 opening bonus. All you need to do is complete a total of $1,500 in real Direct Deposit within 90 days, and you do not need to keep a large balance on deposit for the long term. The bonus-to-requirement ratio is very good.
However, the biggest limitation is that the offer is only for existing Ameriprise customers. If you already have investment, retirement, or advisory accounts with Ameriprise, this is definitely worth doing. If you currently have no relationship with Ameriprise, you should first confirm whether you are eligible; it is not a good idea to open an account blindly just for the bonus.
