Dead! Dead! Dead! Dead! Dead!

Albert is now offering a very attractive brokerage account-opening bonus: New customers who open an account, deposit $1,000, and keep it there for 6 months can get $1,000 worth of free stock! You get a dollar of stock for every dollar deposited, without having to deposit tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. The deposit requirement is much lower than for many large brokerage bonuses.

Albert is a little different from free brokerages like Moomoo and Webull: it requires a paid membership subscription, starting at $19.99 per month. Even so, after 6 months of membership fees, you can still receive about $880 worth of stock, making this a very good deal.

  • Account-opening bonus: $1,000 worth of randomly selected stock
  • Deposit requirement: Deposit at least $1,000 within 90 days of opening the account
  • Holding period: Maintain at least $1,000 in the account and an active subscription for 6 months
  • Membership fee: Starts at $19.99 per month; new users typically get a 30-day free trial
  • Offer ends: June 30, 2027

About Albert

Albert is a U.S. fintech company that differs somewhat from a typical U.S. stock brokerage. It primarily offers an all-in-one personal finance service, including bank accounts, automatic savings, stock investing, spending budgets, credit monitoring, and an AI financial assistant.

Albert Investing is its investment account. Brokerage services are provided by Albert Securities, LLC, a member of FINRA and SIPC, with clearing and custody handled through Apex Clearing. Like Moomoo and Webull, Albert’s stock investment accounts are protected by SIPC, but losses caused by changes in stock prices are not covered.

Albert also offers Cash and Savings bank accounts. Banking services are provided by partner banks, and eligible deposits may be covered by FDIC insurance. Keep in mind that bank deposits and stock investments are different things; FDIC insurance does not mean that stock investments are protected against losses.

Overall, Albert is more like an app that combines banking, investing, and financial management than a professional trading platform. If you’re mainly interested in the account-opening bonus, you don’t need to use all of its features.

Albert Account-Opening Bonus: Deposit $1,000, Get $1,000 in Stock

Sign up for Albert through the exclusive offer page below, open a new Investing account, and meet the deposit requirement to receive $1,000 worth of randomly selected stock. Albert has offered $200 in stock before, but this is a separate $1,000 offer with a significantly larger bonus.

The requirements are as follows:

  • Open an Albert Investing account for the first time. You must not have had this investment account before.
  • Sign up for Albert and choose any eligible paid subscription plan.
  • Deposit at least $1,000 into Albert Investing within 90 days of opening the account.
  • Maintain an active subscription continuously for at least 6 months from the date you open the Investing account.
  • Keep at least $1,000 in the Investing account until the end of the holding period. The stock bonus does not count toward this $1,000 minimum.
  • Once you meet all the requirements, the bonus stock will be unlocked and you can sell it or continue holding it.

The two key requirements are: Deposit $1,000 and keep it there for 6 months, while also maintaining your subscription for 6 months. The official offer terms don’t require you to trade stocks, so if you’re only interested in the bonus, you may want to leave your deposit uninvested to avoid investment losses that could bring your balance below $1,000.

The bonus stock is randomly selected from stocks in companies such as Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Tesla, Meta, Disney, and Nike. You’ll see which stock you’ll receive after signing up and opening your Investing account.

Note that the stock is random, not the bonus amount. When you first meet the $1,000 deposit requirement, Albert will award $1,000 worth of stock based on the closing price on the applicable trading day. The award will usually be fractional shares.

The stock is initially marked as Locked and cannot be sold. It can be unlocked only after the 6-month holding period ends and you’ve met all the requirements. If the stock price rises during that time, your reward may be worth more than $1,000; if it falls, it may be worth less.

The offer is only for customers opening an Albert Investing account for the first time. Anyone with a current or previous Investing account is ineligible. The offer also cannot be combined with other Albert account-opening promotions. The official terms state that the offer is valid through June 30, 2027, but the bank reserves the right to change or end it early.

Albert Membership Fees and Your Net Reward

Albert’s biggest drawback is its membership fee. Unlike completely free brokerages such as Robinhood or Moomoo, Albert charges a subscription fee. It currently offers two main plans:

  • Standard: $19.99 per month, including Investing, Savings, Budgeting, and other features.
  • Genius: $39.99 per month, with an AI assistant and some additional advanced features.

New users typically get a 30-day free trial, after which they’re automatically billed monthly. If you’re signing up only for the $1,000 stock bonus, the least expensive Standard plan is enough; there’s no need to pay extra for Genius.

Let’s calculate the net reward. Assume you receive $1,000 worth of stock and its price doesn’t change during the holding period:

Item Amount
Bonus stock $1,000
Standard membership fee (5 months) -$99.95
Bonus after membership fees $900.05
If you pay for 6 months of membership -$119.94
Net value of the bonus $880.06

In other words, after paying the minimum membership fees, you’ll have about $880–$900 left from the bonus, before taxes and the opportunity cost of your funds. The actual number of charges depends on the free trial and your billing date.

If you deposit $1,000 and hold it for 6 months, the bonus after membership fees works out to a return of about 88%–90% over half a year, or more than 170% on a simple annualized basis. Of course, this isn’t a fixed interest rate; the bonus stock is subject to market fluctuations while it’s locked.

Even if you consider that the $1,000 could have earned around $20 in interest over 6 months in another high-yield account, the overall opportunity cost is still low. If you can meet all the terms, this is a very good offer.

Albert’s Features

Stock and ETF Investing

Albert Investing supports trading U.S. stocks, ETFs, and fractional shares, with a minimum investment of just $1. You can pick stocks yourself or use an Albert-managed portfolio, which automatically allocates assets based on your investment goals and risk tolerance.

Albert also has a Smart Money feature that can automatically direct some of your money to savings or investment accounts based on your income, bills, and spending. It can be convenient for new investors who don’t usually want to research stocks themselves.

However, Albert’s trading features are geared mainly toward everyday investors. It’s not like platforms such as Moomoo and Webull, which offer professional market data, options, and advanced trading tools. If you trade frequently or focus on short-term trading, a professional brokerage may be a better fit.

Banking and Savings Accounts

In addition to stock investing, Albert offers Cash and Savings accounts, with features such as Direct Deposit, a debit card, and automatic savings.

Savings also offers a High Yield Savings option, which gives eligible members access to a higher savings rate. Deposits are eligible for applicable FDIC insurance through partner banks. You can check the rates and terms in the app.

However, if your only goal is to earn a higher interest rate, I don’t think it’s necessary to pay a $19.99/month membership fee just for that. There are plenty of bank accounts on the market that offer high rates for free.

Money Management and AI Assistant

This is one of the areas where Albert differs most from traditional brokerages. It can connect to external bank, credit card, and investment accounts, automatically analyze income and spending, help users create budgets, and monitor bills and finances.

The higher-tier Genius membership also includes an AI financial assistant. You can use natural language to check account information, organize your finances, and even get help with certain tasks. However, Genius costs $39.99/month, so whether it’s worth it depends on whether you need these features.

Things to Keep in Mind When Opening an Account

Although this is a valuable offer, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Maintain the required balance: The $1,000 in stock you receive does not count toward the minimum deposit requirement. The $1,000 you deposit yourself must continue to meet the balance requirement. If you withdraw funds or investment losses cause your balance to fall below the threshold, you could lose the reward.
  • Stock lockup: You must wait 6 months before you can sell the stock you receive, and you’re responsible for any price changes during that time. Fractional shares also can’t be transferred directly to another brokerage; you can only sell them through Albert.
  • You can’t cancel your membership early: The offer requires you to maintain an active subscription for 6 months. If you cancel early or your account no longer meets the requirements, Albert may claw back the stock award, including its value after any price changes.
  • You must empty your accounts before canceling: Under Albert’s current rules, the balances in your Savings and Investing accounts must both be reduced to $0 before you cancel your membership. If your stock award is still locked, you can’t simply cancel your membership and wait for the shares to unlock.
  • Account eligibility: Albert is primarily for U.S. citizens and lawful U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old. You must connect a U.S. bank account in your name and pass identity verification. Check the application requirements to see which identity documents are accepted.
  • Taxes on the reward: Albert explicitly states that the stock award may have tax implications. The stock will also have a corresponding cost basis, so use the tax documents provided by the platform when preparing your tax return.

Also, Albert memberships renew automatically. If you’re signing up mainly for the account-opening reward, make a note of your sign-up date, the date the stock unlocks, and your next billing date. Once the entire reward has actually unlocked, you can plan when to sell, withdraw your funds, and cancel your membership.

Bottom Line

Overall, I think Albert’s $1,000 stock reward is very appealing. In the past, many brokerages required deposits of tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to qualify for a $1,000 account-opening bonus. Albert requires a $1,000 deposit and a 6-month commitment. Even after the membership fees, the reward can still be quite substantial.

Albert isn’t a brokerage I’d prioritize as a long-term primary platform. After all, platforms such as Fidelity, Schwab, Moomoo, and Webull are free to use and generally offer more complete trading features. But purely as an account-opening reward, this offer is well worth considering.

If you’re an eligible new user with around $1,000 you won’t need for a while, and you’re willing to maintain the account and membership for 6 months, I think it’s worth considering. After you receive the reward, you can decide whether to keep using the platform based on your needs.
