Today Alaska has launched a status match specifically for Delta members, and if you have an Alaska Airlines co-branded card, you can even skip the challenge entirely! This match comes with Delta's status changes and is clearly aimed at attracting high-value flyers unhappy with the changes. The offer ends on October 31, so don't miss it!

Rules

This status match for Delta members and Alaska credit cardholders has pretty detailed rules. The advantage of holding the card is huge: you can skip the challenge and match directly to MVP Gold through the end of 2023 or 2024. If you happen not to need to fly for now, I strongly recommend applying for an Alaska co-branded card (personal or business). It saves a lot of hassle. And you only need to have it by year-end, so if you're not in a rush, you can take your time.

If you don't have the card, you can still get 90 days of elite status, but you'll need to complete the challenge. The requirements are below. The miles here are actual flight miles, not spending. A California-to-New-York trip is about 2,400 miles, so meeting the challenge before year-end is still fairly difficult.

• MVP status — fly 5,000 miles on Alaska
• MVP Gold status — fly 10,000 miles on Alaska
• MVP Gold 75,000 status — fly 20,000 miles on Alaska

About the Alaska card

Holding either the personal or business version of the Alaska card lets you skip the challenge in this match and receive elite status through the end of this year or next year.

Let us also briefly introduce their co-branded cards. If Alaska flies from your city, these cards are actually a pretty good fit. The companion fare is genuinely usable, and it is much more generous than some other companion tickets that come with hefty taxes and fees. Compared with the business card, the personal card has a richer bonus, so it may be the better first choice.
