Highlights

• Strong welcome bonus: The Alaska Airlines miles you receive are worth about $1,000+ in airfare. The companion ticket for the first year only requires the companion to pay taxes and fees (about $22). In practice, if you can find the ticket on the airline's website, you can usually use the companion ticket for it.
• Airline benefits:
  • When you buy tickets with this card, you get priority boarding and one free checked bag. Authorized users also get this benefit and can fly separately!
  • Up to six companions get their first checked bag free as long as all tickets are paid with this card
  • 20% cash back on Alaska Airlines inflight purchases, including food, beverage, and Wi-Fi, plus 50% off Alaska Lounge Day Passes
• Alaska Lounge+ Membership discount: Get $100 off when you buy this lounge membership with the card
• 10% mileage bonus: You need to have a BofA business bank account (checking or savings) or an investment account (Merrill), and you only need to have account activity or a balance above $0. This 10% bonus seems pretty easy to earn.
• Companion ticket benefit: Spend $6,000 each year and get one companion ticket (Companion Pass). After one person buys an Alaska Airlines ticket, a second passenger's ticket costs only $99 + $22 (taxes). This is limited to domestic flights on Alaska Airlines and Virgin America. The companion ticket is especially valuable for flights to Hawaii. In the example below, you only pay $99 for a ticket worth $800. When using it, just search normally and it will automatically combine Alaska and Virgin America flights.

Introduction to Alaska Airlines Miles

• Point value: Each mile is worth 1.6 cents (points value chart)
• Redeeming miles: For domestic redemptions, Alaska Airlines recently acquired Virgin America, which gives it a more extensive route network and makes redemptions more convenient. For U.S.-China awards, Alaska miles are one of the few remaining programs that still allow a stopover on a one-way ticket. On your way back to China, you can stop in New York, Chicago, Beijing, or Shanghai for a few days before continuing your trip. For business class and first class redemptions, after AA miles were devalued, using Alaska miles for AA business and first class awards is one of the best values.
• Redemption advantages: You can redeem for Alaska flights, AA flights, and Cathay Pacific. One-way awards can include a stopover, and using miles for business and first class between the U.S. and China is especially valuable. See: Alaska Miles Redemption
• Redeeming for Hainan Airlines: Alaska has added Hainan Airlines as a redemption partner, with plenty of award availability. You can book directly from smaller U.S. cities to smaller cities in China. See: Redeeming Alaska Miles for Hainan Airlines

My take:

This card's benefits are basically the same as the personal Alaska card, though the 2x bonus categories are different. Since Alaska miles are relatively hard to earn and are fairly valuable among airline miles, it makes sense to go after this business card after you've already gotten the personal card. As for long-term value, if you can spend $6,000 and can use the Alaska companion ticket, then it's definitely a no-brainer to keep it. Saving $75 on a single trip should not be a problem.

How to apply

• This is an airline co-branded credit card, so it's best to sign up for an Alaska frequent flyer account first and enter the number when applying

• 2/3/4 rule: at most 2 cards approved within 2 months, 3 within 12 months, and 4 within 24 months. However, BofA’s system is not very reliable, and sometimes a card may be approved at first but later shut down.
• The welcome bonus on the same card can only be received once every 24 months, and you need to make sure the card is closed before applying again>
• You need to be a Resident to apply for a BOA credit card online: when applying for a BofA credit card online, if you select Non resident alien, you will not be able to continue and must apply by phone. However, BofA’s definition of Resident alien is different from the IRS definition of Resident alien for tax purpose. No matter what immigration status you used to enter the US, if you have lived in the US for 183 days within the past two years, then select Resident Alien. If you just arrived in the US and cannot meet this requirement, follow the prompt on the online application page and call 1.800.932.2775 to apply.
