Bad news: American Express will end transfers to HawaiianMiles on June 30. That also closes the backdoor for indirectly transferring MR points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles.
Since Alaska Airlines completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, HawaiianMiles has been transferable to the Alaska Airlines mileage program. That gave AMEX cardholders an indirect way to move their MR points to Alaska Airlines.
As of the time of writing, American Express has not yet issued an official announcement, but the bank has already posted this update on the points transfer pages of its website and mobile app.
AMEX cardholders still have about a month and a half to transfer their points to HawaiianMiles, and then onward to Mileage Plan. In general, we do not recommend transferring points from flexible credit card rewards programs to a specific airline or hotel partner speculatively. However, for fans of Alaska Airlines and OneWorld, this could be worth considering, since Alaska miles can be relatively hard to earn.
This is a reminder to make the most of these remaining transfer opportunities and complete any transfers before the deadline so you do not miss out.
