According to loyaltylobby, Air Canada has suspended the Family Sharing feature starting now. At the moment, it is no longer possible to open new Family Sharing accounts, but existing accounts are not affected and can still add or remove members. However, this suspension is only temporary. Presumably, Air Canada plans to revise the terms and how the feature works before bringing it back online. My guess is that some people were abusing this feature for ticket brokering or mileage theft.

Due to a spike in misuse related to Family Sharing we’ve suspended the ability to create new Family Sharing accounts, including by telephone with an Aeroplan representative.

This is temporary and won’t affect existing Family Sharing accounts – including the ability to add and remove members.

We know how important this feature is for our members, so rather than making knee-jerk changes, we’re taking the time to address this the right way. This may take several weeks, but our goal is to restore the ability to create new Family Sharing accounts as soon as possible
