Today, while checking Award Wallet, I suddenly noticed that the 16,000 miles from my old no-frills Alaska credit card bonus were about to expire. When I applied back then, they downgraded my application, so I ended up with this awkward little mileage balance that I never got around to using.
"If a Mileage Plan account is inactive for 2 years, Alaska Airlines may close the account, delete any mileage balance and reassign the Mileage Plan number. Deleted mileage can be reinstated for a $75 fee for up to 1 year. Activity in an account includes redeeming a Mileage Plan award or accruing mileage in the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Program"
So I started thinking about how to keep the miles alive. I figured shopping with alaska might take a few days, and if an order got canceled, I could easily miss the deadline to extend them. Then I thought: why not just order a magazine? As long as there’s activity in the account (a mileage change), the expiration clock gets extended. After looking into it, I realized you can subscribe to magazines for as little as 200 miles.
But I didn’t actually want to receive the magazine myself, so I thought, why not send it to Trump instead?

From what I can tell, the magazine may go through multiple rounds of security screening and delay.
But that’s okay — it’s the thought that counts, so I went ahead and sent an issue of Health magazine.
Success: my miles were extended for another two years! See you again in 2022~! Wonder if you’ll still be in the White House by then.
