For a full roundup of merchants that support WeChat Pay + US/overseas credit cards, please see our summary post:
About a month ago, KUKU discovered that Weidian supports payments with overseas credit cards, although Express Payment cannot be selected. This find is actually a bit of a bug, and the author wondered whether it would get shut down, but after waiting a month, the charge still goes through. You can think of Weidian as Tencent’s version of Xianyu, and it has its own standalone app.
- The barrier to opening a store is very low
- For individual sellers, the payment processing fee is 0.6%
Compared with the elevated rewards rates that many overseas credit cards offer, this fee seems a little too good to be true.
Given that risk controls for “WeChat Pay + foreign cards” are currently very strict, please go easy on this if you are a big spender. WeChat also has another store-opening mini program, WeChat Xiaodian. Its settlement fee for individuals is also 0.6%, but it does not support foreign cards at the moment, so do not confuse the two.
