Unexpectedly, when using a US credit card on WeChat, refunds may sometimes be automatically returned to your WeChat balance. This data point comes from loyal reader CK, and it really was refunded as balance. See the screenshot below.
It shows that because WeChat failed to refund the original US Visa credit card, the refund was instead returned as WeChat balance. Pretty nice, though it’s probably not something that can be done on a large scale.
In addition, you’ll receive a fee-waiver coupon of equal value for cashing out the balance (withdrawing WeChat balance to a bank account normally incurs a 0.1% fee).
