About Walmart+

Walmart+ is Walmart's paid membership program (W+ for short). It's clearly designed to compete with Amazon Prime. It comes with quite a few perks; let's take a look:

  • Early access to online sales: the main perk is early access during shopping seasons, for example last year you could get early access to buy PS5 and Xbox
  • Free online shipping: non-W+ members need a single order of at least $35 to qualify for free shipping, while W+ has no such limit. A typical example is buying a $1-2 SIM card
  • Fuel discount: save 5 cents per gallon at in-store gas stations
  • Free local delivery: you can get free local delivery (tip warning)
  • Useful Scan & Go

W+ has added another perk: return from home is free. After you request it, someone will come to your home, scan the item, and pick it up—no packaging required. Hope Amazon Prime takes a cue from Walmart.

Paramount+

Starting in September 2022, Walmart+ members can automatically get Paramount+ membership. This membership costs $60 per year.

Spotify Premium membership

W+ now also includes 6 months of Spotify Premium. After you sign up for W+, you can see it on this page:

Fuel discounts

Walmart+ recently added another perk: after signing up for W+, you can get up to 10¢ off per gallon at Exxon, Mobil, Murphy, Walmart, and Sam's Club gas stations (discounts vary by location).

How to use it:

  • Use the Walmart app (with location enabled) and select Service,
  • Choose Member Price on fuel,
  • Walmart and Sam's Club gas stations: pay by scanning with Walmart Pay
  • Other gas stations: you'll get a dedicated code; enter the code to fuel up

Walmart rewards

【August 2022 update】Walmart+ members now get cash back on select items when shopping in the app (non-W+ members don't get this cash back). It's called Walmart Rewards.

W+ hidden perks

Walmart frequently rolls out hidden little perks for W+. We'll update this in real time. Specifically:

  • With a specific code, there was a wave earlier this year that was effectively $45 off, and there has also been $15 off
  • Walmart+ tracks the shipping fees and time you've saved as a member; this is mine
  • Occasionally some items allow you to buy in bulk, even huge quantities. For example, I once bought 1,100+ cheap printers (click to watch the video link)

About AMEX Platinum/Business Gold reimbursement

Now AMEX Platinum cards / AMEX Business Gold offer a Walmart+ reimbursement. No enrollment is required; just pay the $12.95 monthly Walmart+ fee with the eligible Platinum card and you'll receive the credit yourself, taxes included. Again, it must be the monthly subscription; if you subscribe annually, you won't get the reimbursement.

You can receive a statement credit for the monthly Walmart+ membership fee ($12.95 + applicable taxes) when you use your U.S. Consumer Platinum Card to pay for your monthly Walmart+ membership. Enrollment in monthly Walmart+ membership is required.

One nice thing is that you only need to pay with the Platinum card; it doesn't matter which sign-up link you use. Signing up through the AMEX benefit page doesn't give you any extra reward, so it's better to use one of the two links mentioned above. Just remember to choose monthly billing.

The credit usually posts soon after the monthly fee is charged. But sometimes the automatic reimbursement doesn't work, so if you don't see it, contact customer service via online chat.
